SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Machine Operator/Machinist, Gundrill Sets up, performs offsets, operates and maintains gundrill to drill IDs to customer print or specification.The Machine Operator/Machinist, Gundrill reports to the Production Supervisor, Manufacturing Operations Leadership in Orchid Bridgeport.


KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Program machines for setups

  • Sharpen the drills

  • Perform first piece first article and in-process inspection of parts

  • Determine and use the correct 5C collets or bushings

  • Maintain tooling

  • Clean parts and move them to the next operation

  • Check for bell mouth runout and/or depth as needed

  • Adjust feeds and speeds as required

  • Manufacture parts to setup sheet or customer prints

  • Perform weekly housekeeping per 5S schedule

  • Assist and train others as needed

  • May be required to perform additional duties as assigned by Cell Leader or management

  • Perform bench work as needed

  • Weekly tasks may include cleaning inside and outside of machine, performing weekly maintenance, and cleaning the chip box

  • Lead quality and compliance by utilizing One Orchid global processes and complying with all Quality Management Systems (QMS) documentation requirements and establishing/supporting plan(s) to meet/exceed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Quality that support Safety, Compliance, Six Sigma Quality, On-Time Delivery (OTD) and financial objectives.

  • Perform other duties as required or directed by the Department Supervisor or Lead


EXPERIENCE


  • Basic machining knowledge preferred


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES


  • Must be able to read blueprints and interpret GD&T

  • Ability to use hand measuring tools ( ex. Micrometer, calipers, etc.)

  • Ability to apply logic and reasoning to solve problems, including identifying strengths/weaknesses, locating alternative solutions and conclusions, and approaches to problems; and making high-quality, timely decisions

  • Must be able to operate the machine at the level required for the area. To be certified to a certain level, all skills indicated within that level must be trained, then evaluated by an authorized evaluator and certified complete, unless otherwise noted.

  • Level 1 Operator Must be able to perform all bench operations, sharpen drills, perform set ups to with assistance.

  • Level 2 Operator Must be able to adjust machine parameters for material conditions, interrupt geometric tolerances, perform set ups unassisted.

  • Level 3 Operator Must understand tool wear patterns and how to troubleshoot hole drifting issues.


EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION


  • High school diploma or equivalent


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Lifting up to 20 lbs. unassisted

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time

  • Close or highly concentrated visual work

  • Corrected vision of 20/20, preferred.

  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as determined for the position.
