Job Summary:



Lathe Operator must set-up, modify, run and maintain mill machines production, tooling, maintenance, and inspection projects. Produce parts within required tolerances and specifications meeting customer and quality requirements.


Duties:


  • Operate, set-up, and maintain Swiss Style lathes and coordinate the production of parts (Star and Tornos Deco experience a plus) Machinist Level 1 should meet prerequisites of an Operator Level III.

  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to drawing and process control standards.

  • Maintains specifications by observing machining process and operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.

  • Produces machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.

  • Select tools appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work

  • Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout and machining procedures

  • Confirm with numerical control programmers in order to check and ensure that the new programs or machinery will function properly, and that output will meet specifications

  • Confirm with engineering, supervisory, or manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information.

  • Study sample parts, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, and determine product dimensions and tolerances.

  • Under supervision, interprets programs to determine of sequence of operations and set-up requirements.

  • Independently sets up and operates multi-axis machines with very limited assistance.

  • Performs set-ups, tool change, resetting of tool offsets, and edit minor CNC programs, when necessary.

  • Dis-mantles set-ups and returns tools and fixtures to proper location upon completion of manufacturing runs.

  • Reads blueprints - determines set-up procedure, modifications in the operation of precision grinding machines to produce machine parts according to blueprints, router package, specifications and/or special instructions

  • Checks part for conformance to specification using gages, SPC and shop floor system

  • Recognizes and remedies minor machine malfunctioning and in-process inspections.

  • Reports major discrepancies to Lead or Supervisor.

  • Ensures that all responsibilities and functions performed are in accordance with company policy procedures and meet the quality standards.

  • Regular and predictable attendance required

  • Adjust daily work schedule based on production requirements

  • Any other duty, task and responsibility as assigned or required


Education/Experience:


  • HS Diploma; AA Preferred

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in running Stars and Tornos Deco

  • Certification from machine trade school or equivalent experience

  • Lean experience


Skills/Attributes:


  • Ability to measure parts using tools

  • Able to work overtime and weekends

  • Understand blueprint and GD&T

  • Basic Math Skills

  • Able to run and set-up 1-2 machines at once

  • Repetitive use of hands and fingers

  • Must read, write, and speak english

  • Regular and predictable attendance required


Physical Demands:


  • Frequent and repetitive use of hands and fingers

  • Lifting, pushing, and pulling of up to 30 lbs.

  • Requires sitting for extended periods of time.

  • Corrected vision of no less than 20/20, preferred

  • Wear safety glasses on production areas

  • Required: walk, stand, bend, stretch, squat, stoop, reach, speak, and hear

  • Able to work in a fast-paced, stressful, quality oriented environment

  • Requires supervision


Work Environment:


  • Responsible for performing duties in an environment that is free from discrimination, intimidation, coercion or harassment, including sexual harassment

  • Manufacturing environment: may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, dirt, dust, disinfectants, solvents, clean chemicals, etc.

  • Must adhere to company’s and facility’s safety practices by performing work safely and in accordance with established standards.
