We are Topanga Terrace Rehabilitation & Subacute and we are looking for the next member of our team!

As a Maintenance Assistant in our esteemed skilled nursing facility, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of our residents and staff by assisting with the upkeep and maintenance of our facilities. Your primary responsibility will be to support the maintenance team in performing a wide range of repair, installation, and maintenance tasks throughout the facility. This position requires a strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a dynamic and compassionate healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Maintenance Support: Assist the maintenance team in conducting routine inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance activities on various systems, equipment, and facilities within the nursing home, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and other mechanical systems.
2. Repairs and Installations: Assist with repairing or replacing faulty equipment, fixtures, furniture, and appliances. Install and assemble new equipment, furniture, and fixtures as needed.
3. Safety and Compliance: Help maintain a safe and hazard-free environment by promptly addressing maintenance issues, performing safety checks, and adhering to safety protocols. Report any safety concerns or incidents to the maintenance supervisor.
4. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, repairs, inspections, and maintenance schedules. Assist in inventory management and ordering of maintenance supplies and equipment.
5. Emergency Response: Respond to urgent maintenance requests promptly and efficiently, prioritizing tasks based on urgency. Collaborate with the maintenance team to ensure swift resolution of emergency situations.
6. Communication and Collaboration: Communicate effectively with residents, staff, and supervisors to understand maintenance needs, address concerns, and provide updates. Collaborate with other departments and external contractors as necessary to ensure smooth operations.
7. Facility Maintenance: Perform general maintenance tasks such as painting, cleaning, landscaping, and general repairs to maintain the appearance and functionality of the nursing home.
8. Equipment Care: Ensure proper care, cleaning, and maintenance of tools, equipment, and machinery used in maintenance activities. Report any malfunctioning or damaged equipment to the maintenance supervisor.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in maintenance or a related field is preferred.
• Proven experience in maintenance, repair, or a similar role, preferably in a healthcare or nursing home setting.
• Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general maintenance procedures.
• Ability to operate hand and power tools safely and proficiently.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot maintenance issues effectively.
• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks.
• Good communication skills to interact with residents, staff, and external contractors.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, and perform manual labor as required.
• Familiarity with safety regulations and ability to adhere to safety protocols.
