Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Supervisors, Lead Mechanics and Journeyman Mechanics, the Maintenance Helper is responsible for ensuring operation and quality production of machinery and mechanical equipment while being mentored by those listed above.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Learns to locate sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments
  • Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts
  • Learns to determine changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rulers, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments
  • Learns to adjust functional parts of devices and controls.
  • Learns to fabricate repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment
  • Learns to maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; and filling out materials requests.
  • Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job
  • Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information
  • Gains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Must maintain a current California Drivers License
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned

Requirements

Experience and Competencies:

  • Mechanically inclined with desire to learn more about plant/industrial mechanics
  • Knowledge of using hand tools
  • Must have at least 6 months experience working in any manufacturing industry.
