Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) is looking for a motivated professional to serve as a Senior Public Service Administrator, working as a Manager for Administrative Directives Standards. The selected candidate will lead the internal and external audit process for over 30 of the Departments facilities. Additionally, they will be responsible for providing guidance, training, and assistance with the accreditation process with the American Correctional Association (ACA) in selected facilities throughout the State. Working independently and as a team, the ideal candidate will be able to work collaboratively with other Administrative and Executive Staff members as well as support staff. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is well-versed in correctional operations and programs, auditing practices and theory, and a willingness to implement nationally recognized best practices within a correctional setting. Job Responsibilities

  • Directs, manages, reviews, and monitors the agency wide process of standard reviews to ensure compliance with American Correctional Association, Administrative Directives, and Department Rules and submits applications to the Accreditation Commission.
  • Supervises staff.
  • Directs all correctional facilities in the completion of the self-evaluation reports.
  • Directs all arrangements for standards compliance reviews by the visiting committee.
  • Coordinates the review and preparation of responses to the visiting committee report and helps develop reconsideration requests; monitors the corrections of deficiencies if accreditation is denied.
  • In conjunction with the Director, Assistant Director, and Deputy Director(s) establishes policies and procedures consistent with correctional standards and accreditation requirements.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college.
  • Requires four (4) years of administrative experience in a public or business organization.
  • Of the four (4) years of experience, two (2) years must be with the review (audit) process within a correctional facility.

Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)

  • Prefers at least four (4) years of professional experience in correctional compliance practices, policies, procedures, and review practices.
  • Prefers at least four (4) years of professional experience directly involved with correctional programs and operational functions of a correctional facility.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of professional experience providing training on core correctional practices within a correctional setting.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience preparing clear, concise, and complete audit reports utilizing supporting documentation for noncompliant subject areas and recommendations for Administrative Staff.
  • Prefers at least one year (1) of experience with nationally recognized associations with both implementing and conducting audits using established best practices within a correctional setting.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience determining courses of action based on outcomes of research and findings from internal and external sources.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience interpreting and implementing policies.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience using and developing computer-generated spreadsheets, reports, slideshow presentations, and documents.
  • Prefers extensive knowledge of the American Correctional Associations accreditation and audit process.
  • Prefers experience in selecting, training, and leading an auditing team in a correctional setting.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of the position held, is prohibited.
