ABOUT THE LIFE IS GOOD PLAYMAKER PROJECT

1 in 3 kids experience early childhood trauma threats like homelessness, abuse, or community violence. Experiences with childhood trauma can impact a childs long-term physical, social, and emotional health. Research shows that a positive relationship with just one caring adult in early childhood can change a child's life entirely.

The Life is Good Playmaker Project teaches early childhood educators to help kids heal from trauma. We have a growing network of more than 16,000 professionals who create the positive relationships and joy-filled environments that children need to heal, learn, and thrive. We call them Playmakers.

This work is needed now, more than ever and were on a mission to double the size of our Playmaker community.

IMPORTANT DETAIL

Based in: Northeast (note: the Playmaker Project team is primarily based in Boston; we are open to candidates based in the Northeast who are willing and able to travel and join our team in the Boston office as needed)


YOUR OBJECTIVE

The Managing Director, Advancement will lead the organizations philanthropic revenue growth and build a comprehensive development program. This role will have primary responsibility for supporting and growing a $2.5M annual budget through the solicitation of major gifts, corporate and foundation support, and introduce development strategies to maximize philanthropic support. The Managing Director, Advancement will expand and diversify the Playmaker Projects donor base and will be responsible for launching and executing the Playmaker Projects major and leadership gifts program. In addition to developing and leading the Playmaker Projects individual and institutional gift strategies, this role is responsible for the cultivation of prospects, the stewardship of current and future funders, and the solicitation of donors to support annual operations and future growth plans.

Reporting to the Executive Director and working in close partnership with the Chief Playmaker, the Managing Director, Advancement will be an integral member of the Playmaker Projects leadership team. The successful candidate will help forge new relationships to build the Playmaker Projects visibility, impact, and financial resources to provide the organization with unrestricted philanthropic support to complement charitable revenue generated by the Life is Good Company for the Playmaker Project. This individual will work closely with the Board of Directors and support their fundraising role and success.

It is expected that the amount raised by the Playmaker Project will increase in future years as the Managing Director, Advancement systematically and effectively strengthens and builds the organization's overall fundraising capacity.

YOUR JOB

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive development strategy and plan to leverage the generosity of individuals, families, foundations, and corporate donors in the New England market and across the nation. Actively work with the Executive Director, development staff and Board leadership to implement this plan.
  • Identify corporate, foundation, leadership and major gift prospects, secure the research necessary to ensure successful engagement, introduce them to the Playmaker Project and secure their participation to advance the organizations goals.
  • Develop and implement a stewardship program aimed at cultivating deeper ties with donors and stewarding relationships that will lead to an outstanding donor philanthropic experience.
  • Capture all donor information via the Playmaker Projects systems and database platforms; provide and present statistical analysis to board and senior leaders.
  • Identify foundation leads, submit grant proposals, secure grant funding and build strong relationships with foundations.
  • Manage and build the development staff to create a best practice development program for the Playmaker Project. As the development staff team grows in the future, identify, develop, and mentor the development team.
  • Monitor and report regularly on the progress of the development program.
  • Collaborate cross functionally to achieve the organizations annual and long-term goals, including partnership with training, community engagement, evaluation, communications, and operations staff.
  • Serve as a representative and champion of the Playmaker Project at community events and in other public settings.



Requirements

Your Experience and Qualifications:

  • 7-plus years of professional experience in a nonprofit organization; demonstrated success in a development function (building a development program and creating and sustaining relationships with multiple donor sources).
  • Demonstrable track record of personally identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and closing individual donors, corporations and foundations.
  • A record of measurable results in organizing and implementing such activities as major gifts, annual funds, corporate and foundation giving, planned giving, direct response and special events.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with and quickly gain the respect and support of various constituencies, including board and staff members, and donors.
  • A track record as an effective communicator; highly developed skills in writing and speaking; competence at crafting proposals, donor correspondence and other kinds of materials; receptive and responsive to feedback; the ability to communicate the programs mission and interests to a broad audience
  • Experience with fundraising systems and relationship management software
  • Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of how to build diversity, equity, and inclusion in the development function; culturally competent with respect to issues such as racial, cultural, religious, sexual, and gender identity.
