Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: 2320 Highland Avenue, Bethlehem, PA 18020

Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to be responsible for the design, development, and project execution of proprietary, reciprocating pumps and compressors, specialty equipment, and machinery support systems. Execute mechanical design tasks related to won projects and product development initiatives, support of aftermarket activities and engineering tasks. Collaborate with customers to ensure proper design and integration of equipment into the process. Perform safety and operability reviews and collaborate with various discipline areas to finalize equipment designs. Perform various turbomachinery design analyses including FEA (stress, deflection, and modal), and hand calculations. Perform various thermodynamic analyses and calculations, including volumetric and thermal efficiencies, 2 phase equilibrium, and heat loss/gain of the fluid. Integrate machinery equipment into overall plant/products. She will lead or participate in R&D and innovation efforts associated with new technology or product development and select components and materials for machinery and systems. Approve manufacturing drawings and support bid estimate development. Responsible for the development of standardized product deliverables while collaborating with Product Owners. Support root cause analyses (RCA) of equipment and field commissioning and start up activities executed by the Aftermarket Team. Collaborate with the Business Improvement Team to develop new and standardized design engineering tools and work processes for streamlining projects and product development. Drive engineering and material cost reductions and competitiveness across project and product offerings collaborating with stakeholders.

Requirements:

Bachelors degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field. Must have three (3) years of experience in turbomachinery or rotating machinery design experience. Three (3) years of experience with the following:
Using 2D CAD and 3D modeling and simulation;
With lateral and torsional rotordynamic analysis;
Using fluid film bearing, gas bearing, magnetic bearing, hydrostatic bearing and rolling element bearing applications and design;
With equipment start up and planet integration;
With turbomachinery testing, data acquisition and data evaluation;
Using the following programming skills: VB, C#, C+, Python, Matlab, or Fortan;
With Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for stress, deflection, fatigue; and
Performing dynamic analysis of mechanical components.
Ability to work remotely 2 days per weekmust live within commuting distance of office location.
