Job Summary Operating Room Specialty Area Requirement Operating Room Nurses under general supervision, deliver care to patients utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation and evaluation, in accordance with AORN guidelines. Nurses collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes. Nurses effectively interact with patients and their significant others, while maintaining the standard of professional nursing. Operating Room Nurses provide care and support to patients before, during and after surgery. Operating Room Nurses also assist the surgeon, anesthesia and team in their tasks to care for the patient. Position Responsibilities Operating Room Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the guidance of AORN. In addition to general nursing care, responsibilities of Operating Room Nurses include (but are not limited to): Consult/coordinates with team members to assess and evaluate patient care plans.Conducts pre- and post-operative education for patient and family if present.Ensures that Time Out process is initiated along with correct site, patient and procedure.Prepares and administers all medications ordered, and documents according to hospital policy. Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed registered nurse.Responds to codes based upon nursing scope and protocol.Records all care information accurately and completely in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms.Prepares Operating Room for patient/procedure.Checks all equipment in surgical suite prior to patient entering.Monitors patients throughout the operating room phases.Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting.On call requirement. During the surgical procedure:Circulating Nurse additional duties: Assists in positioning, advocating for patient safety. Accurate care and handling of specimens.Enforces aseptic technique.Checks and monitors all equipment used during surgery to confirm running properly.Responsible for patient charting. Appropriate count policy followed pre- and post-surgery
