Tucson Airport Authority (TAA)operates as a mini-city with 250+ employees on 8K acres of land used for operations and customers. Over the last few years, TAA has built out an innovative and future-facing organization by continuously updating itsoperations, and systems, and intentionally creating a people-first culture.

TAA prioritizes modernization and has invested in several technology projects happening concurrently, so they are expanding, adding a Network Systems Administrator to its IT and Infrastructure team. This person performs professional and advanced technical work designing, developing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting TAAs systems and network infrastructure at Tucson International Airport (TUS) and Ryan Airfield (RVN).

Who You Are:

  • Network Systems Engineer with a history of working on modernization of existing infrastructure systems.
  • An expert on cloud virtualization such as VMWare and Cisco.
  • Security and implementation savant for data and network systems.
  • Have a high level of discretion and are able to maintain confidentiality and proprietary information with an understanding of dissemination based on need to know.

Essential Functions:
Ensure the operational availability, performance, reliability, and effectiveness of all TAA network and computing systems both on-premise and cloud instances. Installs and configures new computer equipment and telecommunications equipment including servers, routers, switches, firewalls, access points, and other types of devices. Maintains and assures the integrity of Information Technology (IT) infrastructure and fiber backbone. Performs network and systems security checks and security system installations/updates. Supports IT customers in the operation and use of TAA IT systems and equipment. May support and maintain other specialized IT systems including the Access Control System (ACS), Electronic Video Information Displays (EVIDS), paging systems, and Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV).

  • Manage performance and capacity planning for network systems. Identify, analyze, and resolve network and related system problems. Install, configure, and troubleshoot network equipment such as routers, switches, firewalls, cabling systems, and other network hardware.
  • Install and test software patches, upgrades, and other configuration changes. Monitor and optimize network systems performance.
  • Implement, upgrade, and maintain server (including virtual) and associated operating systems, storage systems and enterprise backup systems.
  • Monitor and test system performance and provide solutions for any problems identified while maintaining, tuning, and patching systems for optimum operation and security.
  • Plan for TAA systems cyber security. Assess, recommend, implement, and maintain solutions for systems security, including vulnerabilities associated with all types of cyber risks and threats.
  • Identify gaps in IT security for infrastructure and applications, including vulnerabilities and risks, using standard scanning tools, techniques, and procedures.
  • Ensure computer networks, servers, databases, and files are as secure as feasible from unauthorized access based on best practices.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with department personnel, other TAA personnel, representatives of other agencies, the local business community, and the public and airport users. Represent TAA effectively in meetings on a variety of technology issues.

Requirements and Qualifications
TAA will consider any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to demonstrate aptitude for the position.

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science, or a closely related field.
  • Five years of progressively responsible combination of network and systems experience.
  • Seven years of progressively complex experience and IT Certifications and/or technical education in systems and network administration is preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and years of experience sufficient to demonstrate the ability to satisfactorily meet the job requirements will be considered.

Skill In:

  • Critical thinking, analyzing complex problems, evaluating alternatives, and making sound recommendations or taking prudent actions.
  • Configuring, maintaining, managing, and tuning the operations of complex operating and network systems to achieve optimal technical performance and user support.
  • Troubleshooting intricate system hardware, software, and network connectivity problems and making or recommending modifications.
  • Installing and configuring all types of network/computer hardware, peripheral equipment, devices, or other technology.
  • Preparing clear, concise, and accurate documentation, policies, work reports, and other written materials.
  • Communicating to establish and maintain a professional effective customer-focused working relationships with managers, vendors, consultants, employees, and others.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:

  • A valid Arizona Driver's license.
  • Meet and maintain the ability to drive personal or airport vehicles and obtain authorization to access the non-movement areas on the AOA (Air Operations Area).
  • Must obtain and maintain access to the Secure Identification Display Area (SIDA).
