The PM Facilities Engineer will operate the department while the Facilities Engineer with the responsibilities of the Maintenance Department. This individual will operate the Maintenance Department with the company goals of safe, quality food top of the mind while achieving the financial goals of Klosterman Baking Company. The PM Facilities Engineer will maintain the building, grounds and all associated equipment to comply with all laws, policies and standards governing food safety. Plant Engineer Assistant are obligated to report any and all food safety issues that may occur.

Responsibilities:

Help manage the engineering needs of the bakery and the hourly engineering staff. Supervision of maintenance and installation of all plant equipment and facilities.

Principal roles and responsibilities

  • Assure equipment reliability to maximize production lines productivity
  • Supervise, coach, train, lead and motivate mechanics to meet planned objectives and respond effectively to emergencies
  • Build staff capability by effectively monitoring and providing performance feedback to direct reports
  • Communicate status of shift to following shift and others who require the information
  • Identify equipment and facility deficiencies and ensure the initiation of corrective action
  • Assess mechanics technical and troubleshooting skills
  • Provide training and counseling as needed to assist mechanics in meeting performance standards
  • Partner with plant peers to ensure the plants equipment meet regulatory requirements for cleanliness and product safety
  • Maintain P&L responsibility over maintenance cost centers, repair and maintenance, maintenance labor, utilities and capital improvement plans
  • Oversee preventative maintenance compliance and effectiveness
  • Develop, monitor, and ensure timely completion of short and long term goals and action plans
  • Assist in making operational improvements to reduce costs and to increase productivity
  • Develop and maintain part inventory
  • Interfaces with vendors, manufacturers and field service personnel
  • Utilize new technology and lean manufacturing principals and processes to maximize efficiency
  • Provide day-to-day operational leadership to mechanics and all associated personnel
  • Develop a work environment within manufacturing that promotes trust, teamwork, quality, and safety
  • Develop, evaluate, train, and mentor employees
  • Ensure the adherence of safety policies, practices, and procedures
  • Ensure production of quality product in compliance of federal and state guidelines. Ensure all regulatory compliance as applicable
  • Develops and maintains parts inventory and cycle counts
  • Member of the following plant and company teams:
  • Regular attendance is required at the following meetings:
  • To be fully staffed, working with HR to on keeping department staffed.
  • Safety
    • Staff Meeting (Thursday)
    • Food Safety (Weekly)
  • Management team will lead by example by demonstrating what is expected of the food safety cultur of the establishment.

Requirements

  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree or certificate in related engineering field required
  • Experience with 3 phase and low voltage power is required
  • Experience with fasteners, hand & power tools, precision measurement tools, gearboxes, bearings, rotating equipment, and assembly/disassembly of machinery is required
  • Extensive knowledge and ability to weld and fabricate required
  • Experience with photo eyes, prox. switches, etc. is required
  • Knowledge in use of calipers and micrometers is required
  • Strong teamwork capabilities is an essential requirement
  • Familiar with general plumbing using PVC, Copper and black iron pipe
  • Good communication skills, self-motivated and detail oriented
  • Experience and knowledge in dealing and working with: FDA, HACCP, OSHA, and GMPs.
  • Food Manufacturing Engineering experience preferred
  • Six Sigma Green Belt is preferred
