Position summary

We are recruiting a Non-Vessel Operations Specialist who will work within a well-established team facilitating the importation of cargo promptly and accurately. They will be customer focused and responsible for the release of cargo based on established criteria and systems. This position requires an energetic, self-motivated, and detail-oriented person with solid follow through.

This is a challenging role that will require competing priorities in tandem with the coordination of import or export shipments. in the NVOCC space. Thoughtfulness and organization will be key whilst working throughout their varying daily tasks. This includes rate confirmations, data entry, arrival/ invoice preparation, scheduling delivery with vendors/customers, etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate between client and overseas for booking reports.
  • Facilitate all aspects of importation of cargo as necessary:
  • i.e., arrange door delivery
  • arrange customs clearance through a network of services.
  • Update and complete arrival notices as they are downloaded from our overseas offices.
  • Track and trace shipments - keeping customers well informed of any / all changes.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as freight rates, discounts, and other percentages
  • Maintain documentation and records according to established company paperless protocol.
  • Solid communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to travel and connect between key customers
  • Proficient in world geography, shipping documentation, and Incoterms
  • Ability to perform work under time constraints
  • Able to take direction from supervisor and superiors.
  • Computer knowledge at user level -Use and familiarity of Microsoft Office suite products (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Experience researching problems for customers and proposing well-thought-out solutions
  • Responsible for integrating and optimizing ocean shipping and delivery resources, continuously reducing costs, optimizing operational efficiency, and improving profitability.
  • As needed, negotiate rates, establish KPI's of NVO operations and report weekly/monthly success to management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English to present information to customers and management in a professional setting

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (Business, Logistics and Supply Chain, or associate field), or equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered in lieu of educational requirement
  • 1+ years Supply Chain Operations
  • 5+ years of warehouse related experienced
  • Thorough knowledge of injury and illness prevention and federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing health and safety, or thorough knowledge of environmental federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of regulations and consensus standards (OSHA, EPA, DOT, NIOSH, ANSI, NFPA, Workers' Compensation), inspection procedures, audits, hazard reviews, incident prevention, incident investigation techniques, and safety and environmental education and training.
  • Effective communication skills: ability to act as an effective advisor to management and employees across many issues.
  • Ability in using computers with knowledge of MS Office products including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Must be a persistent self-starter who can work effectively with all levels of the organization, and lead others with minimum oversight.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior work experience or education for a NVOCC
  • 1-3 years' experience in NVO or like industry: (3 years Preferred)
  • 3 years' experience Logistics Industry

Travel

  • Must be willing to travel up to 35%, more on occasion with notice
  • Ability to travel domestically & International Travel
