Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership is seeking a Grant Writing & Development Manager (Development Manager internally) to drive sustainable financial growth through fundraising.

Working closely with the members of the Executive Leadership Team Members and Program Directors, the Development Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing CVNLs fundraising and development efforts including grants, corporate giving, annual giving, special events, and major gifts program. The Managers primary goal is growing and sustaining CVNLs funding streams. The Manager is strategic, autonomous, forward-thinking, highly relational, and passionate about delivering results to advance CVNLs mission, vision, and cultural objectives.

Essential Duties

Grant Writing:

  • Manage the organization's grant portfolio including prospect and subject matter research, proposal writing, and reporting to funders.
  • Draft and edit high quality, compelling LOIs, grant proposals, grant reports, and acknowledgement letters. Research and collect data and study findings to support grant proposals and reports.
  • Coordinate the development of grant requests by establishing timelines that outline tasks, assignments, and deadlines; meet all deadlines; facilitate timely communications with program leadership; collect grant submission materials from Programs and Finance.

Sponsorship:

  • Coordinate Corporate Sponsorship recruitment and retention for all CVNL events, including three Heart Events, the Human Race, Secret Santa and 100Marin.
  • Develop and implement an individual donor program.
  • Responsible for donor database and donor communications such as thank you letters and phone calls.
  • Collaboratively develop and manage the annual and multi-year resource development work plan. timeline, and budget for the organization aligned with the multi-year Organizational Strategic Plan and Culture Plan

Other:

  • Financial management, including maintaining a pipeline and tracking revenue year over year.
  • Research, develop and implement a planned giving program.
  • Represent CVNL at community events.
  • Plan and lead Fundraising Peer Learning Network meetings.
  • As appropriate lead fundraising workshops.
  • As appropriate consult on fundraising issues to clients.
  • Develop relationships with prospective funders, while maintaining existing client relationships.
  • Become a subject matter expert and contributor for the CVNLs business products, programs and services.
  • Promote CVNLs products/services.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

  • 3+ years of proven track record of grant writing and fundraising success, particularly through securing foundation, government and other event and program sponsorships, corporate gifts, individual and major gift support through personal solicitation, successful campaign management, and engagement of community supporters.
  • Bachelors degree and/or equivalent work experience in related field.
  • Excellent verbal, written and negotiation skills, including facilitation of group presentations.
  • Ability to write compelling grants and other critical communications.
  • Embrace the mission of CVNL and have passion and commitment to the nonprofit sector.
  • Strong interpersonal, planning and time management skills.
  • Self-starter, and goal driven to initiate visits and calls.
  • Organized and exhibits follow through on tasks and goals.
  • Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense and good listening skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse constituents and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of development best practices, trends in nonprofit management, and fundraising tools and technology.
  • Innovative thinking on new ways to generate revenue.
  • Competent in leading or facilitating sessions on related topics.
  • Experience with online research and social media to identify new leads and potential new markets.
  • Commitment to the principles and practices of diversity, inclusion, equity, belonging, and justice (DEIBJ).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and CRM software, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Spanish language proficiency a plus.
  • Familiarity with North Bay communities a plus.

Physical & Travel Requirements:

  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends to support events/special projects.
  • Able to travel throughout Marin and Bay Area.
  • In addition to basic computer desk work, the employee is required to stand, walk, reach above shoulders, and climb or balance. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
  • This primarily an onsite position with occasional hybrid work available to support meeting both the needs of the staff as well as the organization.

Compensation:
The budgeted starting salary that CVNL reasonably expects to pay for this position is $80,218 to $88,594. This takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, external market comparisons for similar positions in similar geographic locations and size. Offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
