NAA is seeking an HR professional to join its team as the HR Generalist!

Overview

The Human Resource (HR) Generalist handles and provides support for various human resources functions within the organization for employees, contractors, and interns. The HR Generalist reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and works with the Human Resources Consultant. The HR Generalist will be an integral part of an organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children and families involved with the foster care system. This position is hybrid in nature and requires in-office 2 days per week.

Because all children need families, the National Adoption Association (NAA) serves its members by stimulating innovative solutions, eliminating barriers, advocating, educating, and sharing excellent practices. Our central goal is to assist and encourage our members nationwide as they find adoptive families for all children and youth who wait in foster care.

This position is hybrid and requires in-office work at the Linthicum Heights, MD office twice per week.

Role and Responsibilities

  1. Recruitment & New Hire Activities: Provide support for all recruitment and new hire activities including utilizing the applicant tracking system for posting positions on appropriate sites, tracking job postings, tracking applicants, reviewing resumes, performing phone screens, scheduling interviews, and communicating with applicants. Assist with employee onboarding by managing documentation, receiving references, conducting HR orientation, and scheduling onboarding sessions and trainings. Ensure compliance with USCIS Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification.
  2. HR Technical & Functional Administration: Provide first-level technical support for employees with internal HR sites. Create and maintain an HR intranet site. Maintain employee handbook, updating processes and forms, creating documentation, etc. Process employee status change forms accurately and in a timely fashion. Report, maintain and monitor all workers compensation case files; follow up on open cases.
  3. Human Resources Information System (HRIS): Maintain personnel data management systems for employees, contractors, and interns and provide reports as necessary. Ensure compliance with applicable legal requirements. Communicate with employees as necessary regarding any missing documents, etc.
  4. Benefit Administration: Monitor employee eligibility for benefit plans. Review benefits with employees and process enrollments, cancellations, or changes. Organize and manage annual open enrollment communication and election process. Coordinate insurance enrollments and communicate with service providers concerning routine administration of programs. Review enrollment data for accuracy and coordinate enrollment with third-party administrators and vendors. Answer employee questions regarding benefits. Verify benefit billing accuracy and process for payment.
  5. Performance Management: Work with HR Consultant to create tools to be used for employee performance including job descriptions and help track compliance to processes. Distribute and monitor employee performance appraisals and ensure they are done in a timely manner. Assist with employee terminations by planning and conducting exit interviews as well as any follow-up necessary.
  6. Coordination with Finance Department: Coordinate with the finance department for any needed items (purchase orders, HR vendor bills, etc.) Communicate with the Financial Specialist regarding HR issues affecting employees and payroll.

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of HR administration experience.
  • Nonprofit HR experience is highly preferred.
  • HRCI or SHRM certification preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • High level of interpersonal and ethical skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; ability to think and work independently, prioritize, and strategize.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of products and familiarity with GSuite. Experience using HR software (HRIS, ATS) and cloud-based software.
  • Ability to learn quickly and incorporate understanding of multi-jurisdictional licensing requirements.
  • High level of teamwork with the ability to collaborate across the organization.
  • Attention to detail in composing and reviewing materials, establishing priorities, and processing human resource actions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective and accurate multi-tasking skills.
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

The HR Generalist salary is $60,000.
