RN Unit Manager - Post Acute 

Las Cruces, NM 88011




Contract Assignments: 13 + weeks



Shift: Variable



This position is responsible for the overall function of the unit, including assessments, procedures, treatments and documentation.



Education :  




  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; 




Licensure:  


  • RN licensure for state of practice is required. 




Certification:  


  • Must have Infection Prevention Training and certification by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) along with experience with the Infection Control and Antibiotic Stewardship Process;

  • Must have current CPR/BLS




Experience:  


  • At least 2 years of management experience.

  • Experience with the Infection Control and Antibiotic Stewardship Process




Knowledge:  


  • Excellent knowledge of basic nursing skills; knowledge and familiarity with the therapeutic effects and side effects of all medications administered.





Essential Duties and Responsibilities:




  • Provide direction and leadership to nursing staff.

  • Responsible for the overall functions of the unit.  

  • Responsible for comprehensive nursing assessment of all residents on admission and on an ongoing basis according to state and federal regulations using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, intervention and evaluation).  

  • Assures assigned residents receive ordered medication treatments and other procedures within defined time frames, utilizing appropriate infection control procedures.  

  • Demonstrates familiarity with the therapeutic effects and side effects of all medications administered.

  • Obtains equipment/supplies to provide care as needed.

  • Assures procedures are followed for pressure ulcers, dehydration, malnutrition, incontinence, pain and medication administration. Accurately completes glucometer testing and control monitoring according to procedure.  

  • Assures residents receive needed assistance in performing activities of dialing living.

  • Responds appropriately to emergencies occurring during assigned shift (choking, falls convulsions, fire and disaster situations etc. ) Implements specific approaches to deal with behavior, enhances residents mood state according to resident care plan.  

  • Document actions and notations for all resident condition changes according to policy and procedure as well as document incidents or accidents in EMR and all necessary forms.  

  • Records daily skilled nursing notes and all actions taken related to admission, discharge transfers or death.  

  • Assists/participates in quality improvement process including audits and corrective procedures as assigned.  

  • Assures physician orders are processed and physicians notified in a timely manner.

  • Makes rounds with physicians as assigned.

  • Attends or obtains resident report prior to beginning shift.

  • Directs and assists with resident, family/significant other education.

  • Notifies family on condition changes etc.  

  • Ensures all staff on post-acute unit are notified and prepared for admissions and discharges each day.




Supervisory responsibilities:  


  • Directly supervises assigned employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies, procedures and applicable laws.

  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning; assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; fostering an environment for employee engagement.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will operate/activate/use/prepare/inspect/place/detect/position objects, tools, or controls.

  • The employee will frequently communicate/express oneself/ exchange/ observe/ assess/ detect information relative to this position.

  • The employee is required to maintain a stationary position/ move/ position self in response to job tasks.

  • Must be able to effectively communication in English, both orally and in writing.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Frequency of travel may vary based on business need
