The Department of Education’s Office of Food and Nutrition Services (OFNS) is dedicated to providing NYC’s 1.1 million students with access to healthy food choices with the highest of nutritional standards. OFNS has a critical impact on the overall education of students as we serve 860,000 meals daily throughout the 5 boroughs of New York City. Moreover with over 8,000 employees and approximately $550 million budget, the organization has a significant influence on the national school food industry and the eating habits of future generations.
The Office Manager will be responsible for the daily operation of the district office and support administrative and operational functions within the borough.
Reports to: District Supervisor
Direct Reports: Subordinate field office staff
Key Relationships: Relationships will be fostered with Associate School Food Service Managers, School Food Service Managers, OFNS employees and management, as well as school level administrative staff.
Responsibilities
- Manages and maintains data associated with OFNS operations including but not limited to meal counts, equipment and equipment related services, food ordered and menus.
- Assigns substitute employees based on the needs of a geographic region.
- Follows up on delinquencies regarding required deadlines in all OFNS related areas.
- Acts as liaison to resolve problems or follows up on routine requirements with representatives in the Regional Directors’ as well as LIC offices.
- Reviews documents pertaining to timekeeping and attendance. Ensures pertinent documents are available for the Supervisor’s review and approval.
- Manages e-bank payroll of office based and district audit of such.
- Prepares reports as needed both on a routine and ad hoc basis.
- Assists school-based food services employees with inquiries.
- Performs related work.
- Assigns OFNS related tasks to field office personnel as directed by District Supervisor.
- Maintains sensitive OFNS matters at the Field Office level.
- Ensures important OFNS information is relayed to District Supervisor, School Food Service Managers, and OFNS staff in a professional, timely manner.
- Field general public inquiry calls.
Qualification Requirements
Preferred
- Highly motivated
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications
- Knowledge of OFNS operations
- Experience in an office setting
- Ability to multi-task
- Ability to lead
- Organized
