Qualifications: The IT App Strategy &Governance/Database Administration Group within Information Technology seeks to hire a highly motivated and dedicated professional to join its management team as a database administrator with leadership responsibilities. The ideal candidate must have a Bachelor's degree, preferably in Computer Science or related discipline. Minimum 5 years' experience administering Oracle databases in a Linux or Windows environment. The candidate must have experience in SQL coding, and have working knowledge of Perl scripts, shell scripts or Microsoft VBS coding. Candidate must have experience researching solutions and industry best practices, and should have contributed to the development and implementation of a vision that is aligned with organizational goals. The individual must have a strong customer focus, enjoy working with a service-oriented knowledge-sharing team, and possess excellent technical, leadership, and service request management skills. Candidate must have the skills and ability to learn quickly, see the bigger picture from detailed facts, assimilate new concepts and think analytically. The successful candidate must understand, at a high level, the components of a typical corporate computing infrastructure, and the job functions required to support that infrastructure. This is inclusive of high availability environments and disaster recovery processes. The candidate must be able to handle multiple assignments with changing priorities while still meeting deadlines. Experience in Oracle's Enterprise Manager, application development, data modeling, schema design, automating DBA tasks, and designing and implementing process improvements is a plus. Candidate will be required to learn new technology as needed for the job using documentation and other available resources. Candidate must be willing to work off hours to support Production problem resolution, database migrations, upgrades, patching, and to respond to corporate emergencies. The candidate will ensure implementation of Company safety, health and environmental programs for self and employees whose work is directed. Ensure that safe work practices are followed and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and governmental regulations.



Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be part of a team of professionals supporting corporate Oracle Databases. The candidate will install Oracle software, maintain databases across multiple platforms, perform modifications to databases, enforce database security, maintain database backup/recovery procedures, migrate database schema changes, conduct capacity planning, performance monitoring and tuning, and manage highly-available production database instances for corporate systems. The candidate will develop new and enhance existing standards, processes and procedures and guidelines for database environments using industry experiences, best practices research and business requirements. Off-hour support is required for production problem resolution, scheduled production database migrations, upgrades and patching. These databases are critical to the efficient operation of the business systems used throughout Con Edison and Orange & Rockland. The candidate will have leadership responsibilities that may include managing service requests of medium to high complexity for a variety of projects. Further responsibilities include evaluating existing processes for possible refinement and working with development teams to establish a multi-year plan of activities requiring DBA services. The candidate will seek operational excellence opportunities within the team through process improvement initiatives, and will be required to interface with application developers, managers, directors, technology and planning personnel, and business users throughout the company.



This position requires a valid driver's license. The candidate must be willing and able to travel within the service territory as required to attend meetings and provide support as necessary. The candidate must be flexible with respect to working off-hours as required for database projects or upgrades, production support or in response to corporate emergencies.
