Job Summary

The Overflow Housing Advocate Manager will take a leading role in the overall administration of the St. Vincents Winter Shelter program, which provides additional shelter options nightly from October 15 through April 1. The Manager will provide leadership for the facility's day-to-day operation and program accountability to ensure teams are adequately staffed, supported, and able to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all guests. In addition, this individual will ensure shelter activities are regularly completed such as, property storage, client check-ins, security screenings, bed management, incident response, and other duties within established procedures and service delivery strategies.

Program management will focus on Housing First services to individuals who are experiencing homelessness, as well as infusing Trauma-Informed Care practices into the program. Program management will focus on assisting clients in obtaining and maintaining housing and addressing the underlying causes of a household's homelessness. Additionally, the Manager will play a key role in ensuring St. Vincent De Paul Overflow operates with a focus on equity, anti-racism, and diversity in serving guests from various backgrounds. Working with members of the leadership team, the Manager will assist with the agency's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts, finding ways to support both staff and guests and helping to implement positive changes in the facility's programming.

This passionate self-starter will support creativity and problem-solving with staff and clients. The Manager will help streamline programs that end homelessness as quickly as possible for every individual we serve. The Manager will value and seek opportunities for input from clients and staff. The Manager will be a model for ethical, fair, competent, and professional values, service delivery, and client relations, including supportive and appropriate individual services to clients, client rights, confidentiality and boundaries, respect for personal dignity, worth, and privacy of clients, the self-determination of clients in relation to their needs, problems, goals, and interests.

As an Advocate Manager, you will:

  1. Oversee all day-to-day frontline shelter operations to ensure success of the program in meeting the needs of single men and women experiencing homelessness.
  2. Assist in efforts to continually assess areas for improvement with equity, anti-racism, and diversity among shelter operations, identifying and implementing new practices as needed.
  3. Work closely with other departments and various community partners to develop and coordinate client services.
  4. Be aware of federal and local changes regarding homeless services, housing services and shelter as well as new and emerging best practices and research.
  5. Infuse Trauma-Informed Care into client services.
  6. Carry out administrative duties including reports, collection of data, and development of resources, and documentation for timecards.
  7. Serve as an integral part of The Road Homes leadership team, providing feedback on staff and guest concerns and workshopping ways to enhance the services provided to guests.
  8. Assist in maintaining a clean and safe facility for both guests and staff. Identify and communicate building and staff needs to Director. Ensure facility is set up for shelter each evening on time, and cleaned/sanitized properly the following morning, working with building lessor to address any facility issues.
  9. Identify and share resources provided in the community that may best serve our guests needs.
  10. Train new staff and supervisors

As an Advocate Manager, you will be trained to:

  1. Direct and supervise two Shift Supervisors and Team Leads (Swing, and Grave shifts), each of which is responsible for a team of Housing Advocates.
  2. Provide support for the Housing Advocate teams as required.
  3. Ensure the highest quality of data entry and reporting.
  4. Support staff development and coaching, discussing other job opportunities around the agency before the overflow season closes on April 15.
  5. Lead daily shift changes and other meetings as required or desirable

  • Ability to contribute to the Agencys commitment to enhancing awareness and appreciation
  • Willingness to understand that housing first, harm reduction, low barrier access to resources is best practice and essential to our mission at The Road Home.
  • Ability to set and maintain good boundaries, using Trauma-Informed Care as a guideline

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • At least one year of supervisory experience required, three years or more preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with homeless or low-income populations required.
  • Knowledge of homeless or severely at-risk populations preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience of administrative duties including project management, supervision of a diverse staff, reporting and presentation, computer fluency and organizational skills required.

Physical and Equipment Requirements

  • Should have the ability to lift 25 pounds (link removed)
  • Should be able to sit, stand or walk for an hour or more at a time.
