Role Summary

The Patient Advocate will serve as the point person for patients and caregivers throughout their cancer care journey, helping them navigate the continuum of care. This role will report to OCPs Vice President of Operations with the opportunity to grow with our organization. In this role, you will spend your time building relationships with patients and caregivers, understanding their needs and goals, serving as a critical member of the care team, and providing a compassionate, supportive network for the patient to focus on the process of healing rather than the process of accessing care.

Requirements

  • Ensure accurate patient identification in all patient interactions and before performing any procedures
  • Assist patient ambulation and transportation throughout the facility
  • Interview patients to gather medical history and current medication information
  • Accurately obtain and document vital signs, including height, weight, temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure, and appropriately communicate to provider when positive screening or abnormal vital signs are noted
  • Administer injections, as directed by a provider
  • Perform blood glucose monitoring, phlebotomy, and specimen collection, as directed by a provider
  • Assist provider team with in-office procedures, treatments, and examinations
  • Electronically propose physician orders for medication refills, diagnostic imaging, and lab studies
  • Efficiently perform room turnover in accordance with infection control protocols to ensure a safe environment of care
  • Direct the flow of a providers scheduled appointments and attempt to minimize delays for both patients and the provider
  • Maintain inventory of clinical supplies at established PAR levels and routinely stock clinical areas
  • Serve as a key resource for patients and caregivers, actively communicating with them both in person and virtually
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with patients and caregivers
  • Provide unmatched customer service with a focus on response, follow-up, and closing the communication loop
  • Assist with the coordination of care across the continuum, such as scheduling appointments, coordinating referrals, and support transferring of information with the care team
  • Interface with referring providers and ancillary care teams as needed
  • Demonstrate a sense of ownership through contributing to the improvement of the patients experience
  • Act as a positive, collaborative team player by being flexible to achieve the mission of Oncology Care Partners

Candidates must be available to work at 9400 NW 12th Avenue, Miami, FL

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assisting program
  • 1 3 years experience as a medical assistant, with exposure to oncology preferred but not required; no experience required with AAMA CMA certification and successful completion of clinical rotations
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association
  • CMA required within 12 months of hire
  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish REQUIRED
  • US work authorization
