Job Title: PCA - Patient Care Associate
Location: San Francisco, CA
Type- Contract
Job Summary:
Patient care associates are caregivers who hold technical training and often have more direct patient contact than any other member of a healthcare team. Patient care associates work under the direct supervision of a registered nurse and assist with routine care. Patient care associates also observe their patient's mental, emotional and physical conditions and report any changes to the nursing staff.
Job Duties and Responsibilities of PCA:
- He/She must demonstrate the ability to record observations and activities, to follow oral and written directions/instructions, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Most patient care associates learn through training programs offered by accredited community or technical colleges, high schools or nursing homes.
- Most programs require the prospective student to be at least 18 years old and possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Maintains patient stability by checking vital signs and weight; testing urine; recording intake and output information.
- Provides patient comfort by utilizing resources and materials; transporting patients; answering patients' call lights and requests; reporting observations of the patient to the nursing supervisor.
- Documents actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records.
- Maintains work operations by following policies and procedures.
- Protects organization's value by keeping patient information confidential.
Requirements of PCA:
- BLS Certification
- Excellent communication skills
- Current active license to practice for the state
- Minimum 1 year of CNA experience (acute care)
