POSITION SUMMARY:

The Pharmacist provides pharmacy services to NMOHC patients, physicians, and clinical staff. Receives compounds, fills prescriptions, dispenses pharmaceuticals, consults with physicians and nursing staff regarding the nature and use of drugs, and trains and/or supervises admixture technicians. The Pharmacist prepares and maintains all necessary records required by federal, state and local regulations and performs daily evaluations of medication profiles to ensure each drug is dosed appropriately. Additional duties include follows-up with the health care team to adjust medications if the patient is experiencing side effects from chemotherapy. Essential Functions Statement(s):

• Reviews, compounds, prepares and/or oversees the compounding, preparation and dispensing of pharmaceuticals to patients or medical practitioners; makes decisions regarding generic substitution of prescribed pharmaceuticals.
• Consults with patients and/or medical practitioners on drug indications/contraindications, dosage, drug interactions, and side effects; provides other drug and pharmaceutical information as appropriate.
• Establishes and maintains methods and manner of storage and recordkeeping systems to provide for safekeeping of pharmaceuticals.
• Performs routine quality control testing of equipment, environment and record keeping as required by federal, state and local regulations.
• Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
• Maintains current knowledge of all medications, administration guidelines, and side effects.
• Is proficient in all drug inventory processes, including ordering, storage, invoicing, cost comparisons, safety issues, expirations, and computer inventory logging.
• Responds to, researches, and documents medication issues when brought forward by staff, physicians, or patients.
• Utilizes computer efficiently for all chemotherapy processes including inventory, scheduling and reports and ordering.
• Monitors OSHA and other state or federal regulatory agencies and compliance programs for areas of responsibility.
• Maintains policy and procedures and annual policy review.
• Maintains personnel files with pharmacy aseptic technique training and media fills.
• Responsible for monitoring PTCB certifications as well as complying with NMBOP regulations.

• Follows up with the health care team to adjust medications if the patient is experiencing side effects from chemotherapy.

• Performs daily evaluations of medication profiles to ensure each drug is dosed appropriately.

Requirements

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's Degree (or PharmD).
• Four years related experience in pharmacy setting, experience with sterile compounding required (chemo preferred).
• Knowledge and experience with clinical policies related to pharmaceuticals and practices.
• Demonstrate knowledge of pharmacy regulations.

Computer Skills:

Intermediate computer skills, EMR, Pharmacy software and related systems

Certificates & Licenses:

Pharmacist with an active State of New Mexico Board of Pharmacy License
