Estimated Salary: $24.16/hour which includes $19.75/hr basic pay plus $4.41 for Health and Welfare benefits.
Work Schedule
A session is defined as one hour. The Phlebotomist will normally provide 8 (1) hour sessions per day, 5 days per week, excluding Federal Holidays. Work hours will normally be between 06:00-16:30 with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. These hours may be adjusted to meet the needs of the institution. The contractor shall not exceed 40 hours per week.
Attire
The Phlebotomist is expected to wear professional clothing while on duty (scrub uniforms are approved). The attire worn shall also be appropriate for the correctional environment in which the contract employee will be performing.
Education and Experience
- Be a Certified Phlebotomy Technician.
- Process a valid certification to practice in the state of Oregon.
- Have a minimum of 6 months of experience.
- Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified, in accordance with the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- The Phlebotomist must provide proof of experience with specimen collection, packaging, and shipment to referral laboratories with knowledge of maintaining appropriate records.
- Experience of working in a correctional setting is desired but not required

Description of Duties
The Phlebotomist shall provide phlebotomy services in a method commensurate with the local community. These services, although not directly supervised, will be reviewed by a physician on staff at the institution.
- Assist the Physician, Physician Assistant, and/or Nurse with patient flow in a clinic setting by measuring the patients vital signs and weight and scanning laboratory results in the Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR).
- Organize, schedule, and perform laboratory studies, specimen collection and process within the Health Service Unit, to include A&O in-processing, DNA per procedure, vaccine programs, Urine for pregnancy, and PPD updates.
- Prepare and ensure specimens are packed and transported according to the contract or BOP Reference Lab and document per Health Services Unit Laboratory Procedures.
- Ensure that lab requests are completed properly, and all reports are returned from the contract lab, provider notified, log results in as received, follow up appropriately, and file results in lab and medical record.
- Acquire and maintain knowledge of the Health Services Manual and Unit Procedures necessary to accomplish the mission described herein, ensuring that the Laboratory Procedure Manual is updated accordingly.
- Assist the Health Service Administrator (HSA) or his/her designee in the coordination of BOP and Contract Reference Lab contact, CLIA re-certification, maintenance of equipment and notification of needed supplies.
- Assist the HSA and Clinical Director with writing and implementing policies that deal with the laboratory program.
