Physician - Director of Medical Operations (DMO)



Northern California/East Bay Area

Position Summary



As the nation’s largest provider of occupational medicine services, our Physician colleagues work to help keep America’s workforce healthy, one patient at a time. We are seeking a Physician Director of Medical Operations (DMO) to help build clinical teams focused on service delivery, driving key business metrics, clinician support and growing core business. While all Concentra clinics have an onsite Center Medical Director, (CMD), the DMO will oversee all CMDs as well as staff physicians & advanced practice clinicians. The DMO is a regionally based medical director.

As the result of a recent large merger, we have added nearly two dozen more medical centers in this area. As DMO, you will oversee all locations in the East Bay and greater Sacramento metropolitan area. This will include some original Concentra clinics and many of the newly integrated Concentra clinics. What are the essential functions of a DMO at Concentra?




  • • Ensures quality and patient safety through the execution of clinical model across markets and service lines.

  • • Manages key clinical metrics and performance indicators including case duration, days to first recheck, utilization and days to therapy services, specialty referral rates, and other disability management and referral pattern metrics delivered by Clinical Analytics.

  • • Monitors clinical outcomes and provides guidance and assistance in outlier cases.

  • • Maintains clinical proficiencies in patient care and EMR/PM systems to support the ability to coach and provide direct patient care as needed

  • • Participates in appropriate risk management activities.

  • • Drives patient and client experience/satisfaction



 




  • • Works collaboratively with physical therapy, sales and operations to ensure appropriate support and work flows

  • • Maintains excellent relationships with employers, payers, referral sources, networks, local communities, etc. to drive market growth while responding to requests within 24 hours.

  • • Develops colleague success through all aspects of the talent life cycle for clinicians: including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, orientation, mentoring/development, engagement, retention, performance management and succession planning.

  • • Ensures patient care delivery teams are functioning at an optimal level.

  • • Cultivates an environment of collaboration, professionalism, patient/colleague safety, quality care, continuous improvement and reward and recognition.

  • • Leads and promotes collaboration across multiple disciplines and teams to achieve positive outcomes.

  • • Develops and executes action plans to address gaps in financial performance and growth across service lines to achieve the annual business plan.

  • • Plans and executes strategies as well as new clinical and business processes within the region.

  • • Optimizes clinical staffing and personnel costs.

  • • Manages and monitors key clinical metrics including efficiencies, cost per encounter, coding and documentation, and others, while understanding the relationship between these and financial outcomes.

EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS




  • • Board Certification in a related ABMS or AOA recognized specialty such as: Occupational Medicine, Preventive Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine or Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

  • • Current unrestricted CA medical license or ability to successfully obtain a CA license.

  • • Unrestricted DEA license for state of jurisdiction.

  • • Medical degree (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree from accredited institution.



JOB RELATED EXPERIENCE




  • • Previous or current clinical management and supervisory experience is required.

  • • Experience in occupational medicine/employer health services is strongly desired. Comparable experience may be considered.

  • • Experience with mergers/acquisitions/clinic startups is a plus.



SCOPE MEASURES




  • • Direct reports: Yes, multiple

  • • Budget responsibility: Yes

  • • Accountable for clinical management of all sites (centers and on-sites) within area of responsibility. 100% G&A with 80% of the time spent at sites.

  • • Travel: Mostly local throughout the Bay Area and Sacramento regions.

  • • HQ: You may office out of any clinic in the region.
