Summary of Responsibilities

Independently perform and lead analysis and design activities ensuring plant designs and as-built facilities meet site requirements and Urencos design and engineering standards throughout the entire life cycle of design assets. Standards consist of (nuclear) safety requirements, site license requirements, regulatory compliance requirements and Urenco state-of-the-art, qualified systems and best practices. The ideal candidate will be a recognized specialist in their area of expertise with a high, in-depth level of knowledge and problem solving skills.

This ideal candidate will also have experience or professional exposure to gas centrifuge technology, Integrated Safety Analysis (ISA) and hands on experience producing front end engineering design and will be familiar with criticality analysis.

  • Must have strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to represent the site on regulatory matters and articulate compelling arguments. Must be familiar with NRCs enforcement program.
  • Must have knowledge of applicable regulations and understand the regulatory process.
  • Must be able to propose and implement changes for the facility.
  • Must have a demonstrated track record in successful design delivery involving conceptual designs and FEED of complex process facilities.
Education and Experience

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or a masters degree in Engineering or other science or technical field.
  • 5 Years of practical application experience in process and front end design engineering in an industrial chemical environment
  • Change Authority experience (e.g., 70.72, 50.59, 95.19, USQE).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or a Masters degree in Chemical or Nuclear Engineering and a Professional Engineering (PE) license obtained by accredited examination.
  • 8 Years or more experience in process and front end design engineering in an industrial chemical environment.
  • 2-3 Years of experience at a Part 70 licensee performing licensing functions.
  • Design Safety Basis Development, HAZOP, Documented Safety Analysis experience.
Job Details
  • The work location for this position is Urenco USA, Eunice, NM 25% of the time.
  • Work Schedule: Professional work schedule/ with minimal night/ weekend support. Some nights and weekend work may be required. Employees are also subject to call-outs as needed.
  • Travel Required: 15% of the time or less as required.
  • Security Clearance Requirement: Controlled Access Area (CAA) Access and an L or Q level security clearance is required.
  • Work Environment: Radiological exposure expectations of < 100 mrem/yr. General Office, Plant Production Areas. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets etc.
Primary Functions
  • Delivery of Front End Engineer Design of future plant expansions and new construction.
  • Actively promote a pro-active safety culture and perform analysis to create and promote continual safety process improvement behaviors.
  • Ensure advanced plant designs contain safety features based on best industrial practice and lessons learned from an industrial nuclear environment.
  • Perform design reviews and approve, as delegated design authority the designs concerning the expertise area of Process Technology.
  • Provide governance and oversight concerning detailed design and supplier manufacturing quality processes on request of site or group project managers.
  • Establish, control, and maintain Group Reference Design and safety case standards and requirements including: Core UF6 enrichment, critical core UF6 support system requirements, relevant UF6 de-conversion requirements, and all design and safety case requirements in support of UTD activities.
  • Lead Post Implementation Reviews to establish the feedback loop to design Authority from a safety /license compliance, operational and asset management perspective.
  • Manage troubleshooting and debottlenecking investigations on the request of the operational sites.
  • Lead business critical incident investigations and root cause analysis.
