As Principal Hardware Technologist/Engineer, you will be responsible for leading technology development of complex hardware systems and automation solutions, and user interface subsystems that are embedded within our commercial foodservice appliances. In this individual contributor role, youll work on a variety of hardware-based design challenges. Your subject-matter expertise and innovative thinking will help ensure our equipment offers cutting-edge and reliable technology that enhances the customer experience and our market advantage.

This role is subject to our hybrid work model: we collaborate in the office on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. The rest of the week, you have flexibility to work wherever it suits you best.

What Youll Do

  • Partner closely with product management, marketing, engineering, and operations to generate technology platforms and product modules that are based on tactically selected innovative technologies in the commercial appliances space.

  • Serve as MFTs subject-matter expert in hardware systems architecture and design, including sensing applications, smart data collection, system monitoring, and user interface screens/HMIs

  • Provide effective solutions and generate original concepts to a range of customer and market needs

  • Implement hardware-based designs to incorporate sensors, bridging analog into the digital world for a user-friendly experience, including, but not limited to, touch, pressure, proximity, optical, temperature, humidity, motion, flow, etc.

  • Maintain strong understanding of industry trends, competitive landscape, design partners, and customer portfolios

  • Conduct technology research in new/adjacent markets, and develop hardware technology platforms and roadmaps

  • Propose, implement, and lead technology projects in smart equipment leading the way to interconnected data driven secure products by leveraging various sensor technologies and control boards

  • Collaborate with team members to develop smart sub-systems for commercial appliances, including data collection and reporting via different communication methods (e.g., ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Cellular)

  • Perform board level design, testing, and validation of technology and innovation concepts/solutions for beverage/dispensing, cooking, refrigeration, frozen, or other related products

  • Serve as a coach and mentor to other hardware engineers by participating in architecture, design, and projects reviews, and technology learning sessions

Skills/Experience Were Looking For

  • Demonstrated experience with hardware architecture and system design, product development and product launches

  • Experience with technology research, idea generation, and technology platforming strategies

  • Systems thinker with holistic approach to analysis that focuses on how a systems individual parts interact and how the systems deliver expected results

  • Innovative mindset to tactically select appropriate technologies, systems, tools and apply them to foodservice products based in the Industry 4.0 technologies (IoT, smart equipment, AI, autonomous systems, etc.)

  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular, etc. and secure OTA updates

  • Proficiency in schematic capture, layout, and other design related tools and applications (e.g., Altium, Cadence, etc.)

  • Extensive understanding of hardware design requirements and associated regulating agencies, such as UL, CE, FCC, etc.

  • Knowledgeable of emerging technologies such as IoT, artificial intelligence, automation, etc.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters in Electrical, Computer Engineering, or related field

  • 15 years of experience architecting, designing, implementing, and launching complex hardware systems, products, and solutions
