Principal Scientist - Oncology

Serna Bio is building the worlds first map of the druggable transcriptome, systematically opening up the universe of RNA biology to small molecule drug discovery. Using our Discovery Platform, we are tackling the classically intractable targets ranging from coding and non-coding RNA.

We are looking for a Senior or Principal Scientist to begin the growth of our new US Labs. This person will report into our Director of Translational Biology and play a wide-ranging role in our efforts to accelerate programs to clinic

The Impact Youll Make

In this role, you will be an integral part of our biology programs team, leading internal drug discovery programs and influencing the scale up of our capabilities.

If you enjoy building things from the ground up, this role is for you! You will lead critical experiments both in-house and in collaboration with CROs, to progress our drug discovery programs. Working with the Chemistry, R&D and Bioinformatics teams, you will shape the strategy and screening cascades for key programs; as they move further through the drug discovery process.

  • Help guide the development and execution of key phenotypic assays, both in the lab and working with CROs
  • Develop the screening cascades for key drug discovery programs, and be responsible for progressing ML-enabled hits through relevant disease models
  • Review the data, statistical design and presenting the data to senior management and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate on strategy for our drug discovery program progression.
  • Help us grow by balancing and juggling a range of priorities in a rapidly evolving environment.
  • Deliver on cross functional projects directly with the Director of Translational Biology and our senior management team

The Team Youll Join

You will be a key member of our new US Programs Biology lab, advancing our Oncology programs through early drug discovery.

  • Demonstrable experience managing external collaborations and CROs
  • Demonstrated experience with CDX, PDX, and organoid disease models
  • Demonstrated experience with vector design, cloning and fluorescence and luminescence assays
  • Experience leading and prioritizing among multiple projects and efficiently advancing projects to Proof of Concept and no-go decisions.
  • Extensive experience with molecular biology skills (qPCR, Western blot, mammalian cell culture, cloning)
  • Demonstrated experience with data analysis in prism or similar tools and an understanding of statistical methods and experimental design
  • Experience working in cross-functional and distributed teams.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage different projects and deliver to defined timelines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills e.g. can tailor the complexity of communications as and when required, whilst maintaining clarity of communication

The Values Youll Share

  • We are unapologetically unrealistic: We are unapologetic that our expectations for delivery are extraordinarily high. There is urgency to our existence: our ambition grounded in relentless execution of well designed experiments.
  • We are data-driven: Data trumps opinions.
  • We are humble: We understand the limitations of our knowledge and seek to learn from others to minimize them.
  • We are curious: Learning from the diverse perspectives of our fellow teammates, and from failure, is an essential part of how we make progress. At Serna Bio, we celebrate failure, mistakes, and the ability to learn from them.
  • We are one company: We operate with a company first, team second mentality. Our success comes from working as one interdisciplinary organization.
