BlueChip Financial (BCF) is looking for an experienced Principal Software Engineer who loves building software to help drive our company's growth. This position reports directly to the BCF Engineering Manager.

In this role, you will

  • Own and contribute to the technical planning of multiple development projects (This includes working directly with stakeholders, business SMEs, and product managers to refine engineering requirements)
  • Guide the design and implementation of those multiple projects
  • Leverage career experience to identify looming challenges and technical debt that should be addressed sooner rather than later
  • Have enthusiasm for proposing technical and process improvements, often owning the implementation
  • Write code that meets internal standards for maintainability and best practices. Supports the entire team in holding the line on these standards through regular code reviews and pair programming
  • Have deep knowledge and serve as a technical expert on our application stack, its APIs, languages, and database schema
  • Provide mentorship to the entire engineering team on a broad spectrum of technical topics
  • Identify and adopt high-level technologies, processes, and services that impact BCF on a system-wide scope.
  • Participate in the eng-support rotation
  • Serve as a technical leader and subject-matter expert for all major backend services of the platform.

Requirements

Mandatory Qualifications

  • 12+ Years experience as a software engineer with code in production
  • 5+ years experience with cloud platforms; AWS preferred, but GCP, Azure, and others are okay
  • Experience deploying, maintaining and scaling apps (Docker, Kubernetes, Serverless functions)
  • A working understanding of modern devops (releasing and using CI/CD)
  • Expert proficiency with at least one programming language, eg Scala, Java, or Python
  • Proficient with both Relational and Non-Relational databases
  • Experience with event processing
  • API Development, eg REST, GraphQL
  • Proficiency with writing and designing tests via TDD, unit, integration, etc

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior startup experience
  • Prior experience with financial companies
  • Functional Scala experience
  • GraphQL
  • ML experience, production real-time use
  • Data Warehousing, data engineering
  • JVM experience

Location and Travel

BCF is headquartered in Belcourt, North Dakota, with offices in Minneapolis, San Diego, and Atlanta. This position can be located at any of these offices. BCF expects a hybrid work environment with a two-day in-office policy. Travel should be relatively limited, around 1015% per month when needed.
