Job Summary:

Process Design serves as the Chemical Engineering support on site for capital projects within the Portfolio Management Office. The Process Design Engineer is responsible for developing a detailed understanding of project goal(s) with stakeholders, evaluating alternatives to achieve the desired outcome(s), and delivering a thorough definition of the recommended solution (FEL 0 - FEL 3).

Essential Functions:

  • Developing detailed project charters and scope through sponsor interviews
  • Identifying, evaluating and recommending alternatives for technology, cost and operability
  • Application of simulation tools/design software as well as the design, sizing and specification of the necessary equipment
  • Developing piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
  • Identification and application of all applicable internal and external standards, codes and regulation
  • Execution of all required process hazard assessments to ensure safety in designs
  • Facilitation of the assembly of the process design package at the completion of front-end definition

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Develop, update, and/or prompt the following information generation for each project (as applicable):
    • Process Flow Diagrams (PFD)
    • Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)
    • Process Pressure and Temperature Analysis (PPTA)
    • Equipment Datasheets
    • Process Conditions Datasheets
    • Process Design Equipment Record Forms
    • Process Hazard Analysis (PHA)
    • Cause and Effect Tables (CETs)
    • Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA)
    • Over-pressure Protection (i.e. UG-140 Overpressure Protection by System Design)
    • Process Overview Narrative
  • Support relief valve file updates as directed.
  • Complete work orders as directed.
  • Support the development and maintenance of process design NWG as directed.
  • Maintain HSC process design SSGs to reflect industry best practices and internal requirements.

Additional Skills:

  • Strong oral, written, and personal communication skills
  • Capable of working independently or in multi-discipline teams
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization as well as external vendors
  • Proven skills with ASPEN or an equivalent process simulation software

Minimum Required Education/Certification

  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering.
