Position: Process Engineer
Location: Cowpens, SC
Fulltime /Permanent with benefits

Job Description:
We are a privately held family-owned company founded in 1926, and is one of the leading manufacturers of plastic closures for food, beverage and industrial markets. We have a full-time, salary, opening for a Process Engineer reporting to the Operations Manager.

The Process Engineer will be critical in process design, operation, and implementation of new product lines, while working to improve the efficiency of existing process and production.

The Process Engineer will also be responsible for the development and training of both Process and Production employees in process related activities.

Key Responsibilities:
General
Ensure that all work undertaken is carried out safely and without injury
Ensure that all food safety issues are reported to the appropriate manager or supervisor
Ensures Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) are followed at all times (no jewelry, cell phone, nicotine in any form, etc.)
Housekeeping performed throughout the shift
Ability to lift 35 pounds unassisted and while standing/walking for duration of shift
Develop, implement and support Continuous Improvement Programs
Initiates corrective action for non-conformance
Identify opportunities for improvement and enter into See It, Sort It, Report It system
Able and willing to wear appropriate PPE as required
Ability to travel domestically and internationally, sometimes on short notice
Duties as assigned per Operations Manager

Personnel Supervision
Supervise hourly process technicians in regards to scheduling, shift coverage and vacation requests
Approve time off requests and payroll timesheets in an accurate and timely manner
Manage process technicians performance with the support of the Operations Manager, to include documentation
Conduct performance reviews as per company standard
Conduct shift start meetings
Distribute daily work assignments
Keep a record of all performance related events throughout the year (good and bad) including warnings, emails and conversation notes
Administer plant rules and policies in a fair and consistent manner

Process Responsibilities
Establish and implement Best in Class processes for all injection lines, achieving consistent quality at the most efficient cycle time with no interruptions
Work closely with the quality group to ensure all processes yield dimensional results that meet or exceed customer requirements
Assist with the start-up of new equipment: developing process parameters and implement operator training plans
Monitor and correct issues identified in critical process parameters on the injection machines, vision systems, color feeders, color blenders and secondary systems to include scheduled process and equipment audits
Lead role in advanced process analysis: identifying process improvements that result in cost savings, improved part quality and improvement of related KPIs
Key in mentoring, training and developing process technicians and injection operators
Liaise with outside suppliers, machine manufacturers and Bericap management
Execute sample requests issued and process related activities focused on identifying root cause
Lead new material and color validation
Participate in mold and product design/drawing/process reviews when required
Key role in the PFMEA process when required
Develop procedures and best practices for the processing engineering department
Evaluate new and existing equipment to aid in the assessment of needs for long-term machinery strategy
Support process technicians and injection operators during normal shift hours, overnight hours and on the weekends
Support and conduct injection molding trials; including, but not limited to scheduling, coordinating and conducting molding trials

Experience:
5+ years experience with processing injection mold machines and secondary equipment
Thin wall, high cavitation preferred
Process design and mold qualifications preferred
ISO or similar quality system and SQF or similar food safety system

Skills:
Ability to present technical data to all levels of the organization and produce results when facing deadlines or commitments is required.
Demonstrate strong analytical and technical skills required to understand best manufacturing practices and recommend proper improvement opportunities.
Advanced injection molding knowledge related to troubleshooting and resin behavior
Advanced problem-solving skills focused on root cause analysis and lessons learned
Working knowledge of basic hydraulic/electric/pneumatic/vision systems
Ability to work independently and within a team
Familiar with various injection molding machine manufacturers and downstream processes
Ability to set up new tooling with a robust process using scientific molding principles

Education/Requirements:
Engineering degree or technical certification preferred
Formal plastic certification preferred
