The Process Engineering Manager is an experienced leader of teams that develop Lithium-ion batteries, semiconductors, or similar equipment, on time and within budget. Responsibilities include delivering multiple projects in parallel, experienced in all phases of design from early concept through validation and handoff. The Process Engineering Manager will develop a strong and highly-engaged team, soliciting input and debate from all levels in the organization, setting clear standards for work quality, and being a transparent decision-maker.

About

Cuberg is commercializing next-generation battery technology to power the future of electric mobility. The company was acquired in 2021 by Northvolt, a global supplier of sustainable, high-quality battery cells and systems. As Northvolt's Advanced Technology Center operating in Silicon Valley, Cuberg is developing and commercializing lithium metal batteries, building an innovation ecosystem around lithium-ion technology, and leveraging Northvolt's state-of-the-art manufacturing capabilities to rapidly scale up production of advanced batteries.

The San Francisco / Bay Area cash compensation (base + bonus) range for this full-time position is $192,000 - $242,000 + equity + benefits.

Responsibilities

• You are capable of delivering multiple projects in parallel, experienced in all phases of design from early concept through validation and handoff
• You develop a strong and highly-engaged team, soliciting input and debate from all levels in the organization, setting clear standards for work quality, and being a transparent decision-maker
• Provide inspirational leadership for a team of engineers developing Cuberg's next-generation, processing equipment
• Drive the team to identify and de-risk key technical challenges
• Collaborate with various teams (cell design, systems, quality, production, materials) and oversee experiments to determine root causes in cell failures
• Review and approve key design process work: P&ID, HAZID/HAZOPS, flow and reaction simulations, design verification, factory/site acceptance test plans, and other test plans
• Work collaboratively with your team to support existing tools; support your team in deep troubleshooting and use issues as opportunities for continual improvement
• Create opportunities for staff career growth, identify top performers and develop their careers

Requirements

• Bachelors Degree in Engineering or equivalent in years of experience
• 8+ yrs of Process engineering experience
• 5+ years of experience in battery cell manufacturing
• 8+ yrs experience successfully leading process engineering teams in a battery environment
• Experience engaging with equipment vendors, from request-for-proposals to site acceptance testing and deployment, is required
