Mindexs SchoolTool division is responsible for New York States market leading Student Management System (SMS), built from the ground up. Our team is involved in the full lifecycle of this product, including sales, training, support, and maintenance.

As Product Owner you'll be directly aligned with one of our agile engineering teams, articulating and prioritizing customer challenges and opportunities for the team to solve in collaboration with your partnered User Experience specialist. The ideal candidate will have excellent business acumen, experience in SaaS product management, a passion for working in K-12 education technology, specifically in driving efficiencies in back-office systems, and processes for K-12 school districts.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Works with the Product Director to translate high-level company vision and strategy into actionable product plans.
• Works with the Customer to analyze user needs, identify improvements, their priority and value, and documents them as epics containing high-level features, functional requirements, and acceptance criteria.
• Works with the Engineering team and User Experience to break epics down into plannable features and user stories and acts as the Customer SME/Advocate providing continuous feedback throughout the development process.
• Approves work done, tracks progress toward completion of Epics and larger strategic goals (or OKRs), and collaborates with documentation, training, support, and marketing to prepare customer communications and support ahead of release.
• Where appropriate, facilitates user acceptance testing and/or feedback demonstrations of work prior to release, collates and assesses feedback, and reshapes team priorities as needed in order to maximize value for the customer.
• Acts as a SME in support of service, sales, and marketing for general Q&A, represents SchoolTool externally at User Groups and Conferences, presenting as needed on recently released features and running focus groups to gather feedback.
• Actively facilitates and participates in team retrospectives and the continuous improvements of our organizational structure, processes, and tooling to drive greater operational efficiency and value for our customers.

Requirements

• Bachelors degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a combination of education and equivalent work experience
• Two+ years of experience as a product owner or working within agile software development team
• Two+ years of experience in software application design / development / support in the PK-12 education field preferred.

• Willing to travel up to 15% of the time
