Overview

AARPs Legal Counsel for the Elderly champions the dignity and rights of vulnerable Washington, D.C. seniors 60-plus, providing free legal and social work services to those in need empowering, defending, protecting, and helping thousands of clients each year in many areas of civil law.

The Project Analyst organizes and implements the Legal Counsel for the Elderlys (LCE) Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) project, a federal grant-funded project to educate the public on how to identify and report Medicare and Medicaid fraud, waste, and abuse. Serves as an LCE subject area expert on Medicare. Represents the LCEs SMP in collaborative partnerships with external organizations;in both the public and private sectors. Plans and coordinates day-to-day activities and outreach with project staff to achieve project goals. Collaborates with management to identify opportunities to improve project performance and perform a range of duties depending on designated operational assignments.

Responsibilities
  • Oversees the day-to-day planning and execution of events, consumer experiences or other projects and their related communications plans. Leads the development and maintenance of all project planning and management tools and practices including project charters, timelines, budgets, risk assessments/mitigation plans, and communications plans.
  • Contributes to project planning, budgeting, and overall strategy. Determines resource needs and monitors budget against projects and departments.
  • Organizes project teams and leads internal and external team members to deliver project goals. Works with the team to continually optimize department workflows and standard practices. Supports training of staff on project management tools and best practices.
  • Provides project management, including coordinating activities of overall project, tracking progress against milestones and other performance indicators, and preparing reports.
  • Coordinates with others, internally and externally, to ensure integration into department overall projects. Tracks, analyzes, and reports project progress to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Identifies and develops new procedures and processes to support the organization and project implementation. Ensures effective change management occurs throughout course of project.
  • Works with the team to continually optimize department workflows and standard practices.
  • Manages multiple events or projects simultaneously at different stages of the project lifecycle, while coordinating with other colleagues on the team to ensure integration into department overall projects.

Qualifications
  • Minimum completion of an Associates degree.
  • 4+ years of public benefits experience.
  • Knowledge of federal Medicare and Medicaid programs.
  • Grant writing and management experience.
  • Amenability to local (DC) travel to 15% and annual travel to conferences.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
