Pumps Product Engineer Job Description



The Product Engineer shall be responsible for designing and qualifying fuel, hydraulic, coolant, lube/scavenge pump assemblies for use in the Aerospace and Military industry. The Product Engineer shall be responsible for researching and developing ideas and processes for new products and follow that project from cradle to grave. Other key responsibilities will be to improve existing products and support our production team to solve problems in a timely and cost effective manner. An understanding of the aerospace industry preferred. The Product Engineer shall create technical proposals and test documents using Microsoft office. The product engineer shall be capable of evaluating concepts using standard engineering practices (FEA, FMEA, GD&T, etc…).  Travel to customer sites within the US and outside to be expected; roughly 20%. Product Engineer shall be capable of using CAD (Solid Works) to create design concepts, however, the detailed CAD work is completed by the dedicated CAD designer. …Product Engineer shall have basic financial understanding of cost of production of machined and purchased parts to assist in the costing of the final assembly. Assist the sales team in marketing initiatives for a product. Interaction with our customers is a daily occurrence, thus polished interpersonal communication skills are a must.



 



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



 




  • Organizes engineering related functions necessary to the support of the Company’s pump product lines, plans and formulates engineering programs

  • Assists department activities to design new products and develop future technologies.  Monitors trends and advancements in aviation and ground support technology and advises Marketing on necessary development or directions. 

  • Assists in activities to modify existing designs, improve production techniques, develop engineering specifications and test procedures, select materials and components, and the preparation of operating or maintenance instructions and other product literature.

  • Works with engineering test lab and outside prototype labs.  Coordinates the engineering efforts with other engineering services within the company.

  • Confers with management staff, manufacturing, marketing, quality control and other related departments to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products.

  • Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications. Evaluates and approves design changes, specification reviews, final review and approval of drawing releases, specifications, test plans and reports, and engineering orders.

  • Provides or coordinates technical support with customers in servicing pumps or clarifying return to service criteria through e-mail, phone, or technical letters.  (link removed)>
  • Provides information and assistance in resolving manufacturing and field problems, maintains liaison and coordinates with marketing, manufacturing, quality control and other related departments and functions. May provide field support, product engineering to customers and vendors, engineering analysis of returned products and product failures.

  • Oversees the preparation of documents such as QTPs, QTRs, ATPs etc...

  • Complies with and conducts business in accordance with the letter, spirit, and intent of all relevant laws and regulations, policies, work procedures, instructions; wherefore, refrains from any illegal, dishonest, unethical conduct.  Maintains communications with all employees, vendors, customers and others in a cooperative and professional manner, while treating them in with dignity, respect and courtesy.

  • Works with MRB to disposition non-compliant product.

  • Performs other related duties as required and may be assigned.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE



 




  • Education:  BSME 




  • Experience:  Several years related product design engineering experience and management, or design/development team leadership experience. 5-10+ years preferred, but not required.




  • Level of travel required:  Domestically and internationally, as required, typically 20%

  • This person would be working on piston pump design, on Aircraft water purification projects

  • Prefer experience in hydraulics field including vane, piston, gear, gerotor and centrifugal pumps.

  • Hands on and analytical.  Has the ability to shift gears quickly and wear many hats.

  • Must be comfortable occasionally working in a hands-on engineering lab to help technicians set up tests, tear down parts, etc.

  • Strong knowledge of and experience in the aerospace manufacturing businesses, and the ability to recognize opportunities for new products and manufacturing technologies.

  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills.

  • Experience with and proficient knowledge in use of computers, computer aided design (CAD) software, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).

  • Candidates must be action oriented and self -starters.

  • Aerospace experience is a huge plus

  • Ansys CFD and FEA experience/familiarity is a huge plus
