Quality Compliance Engineer

We are seeking a Quality Compliance Engineer within our Quality Assurance team located at Bethlehem, PA. This position requires 25%-40% domestic travel.

The Gardner Cryogenics Quality Compliance Engineer is accountable to monitor, analyze, and improve product performance relative to customer requirements, through data collection, process and procedure control, risk analysis, and defect reduction. The Quality Compliance Engineer will ensure alignment and oversight in the application of ASME, DOT, ISO and other regulatory requirements to our manufacturing and inspection processes, as prioritized by business need and product forecast.

The Quality Compliance Engineer is expected to maintain a leadership role in driving compliance and improvement of processes, assist in audits, welder training and certifications, lead root cause investigations and assist in the development of robust inspection plans for fabrication of pressure vessels and manufactured components.

The candidate will approach his/her role with a data driven mindset, using quality compliance best practices to drive measurable outcomes tied to business goals.


Required Skills / Abilities:

Demonstrate safety leadership and safety accountability.
Obtain manufacturing, planning, project management and engineering input to ensure alignment of QA priorities and drive results
Demonstrate a high level of customer focus, and ability to effectively engage in customer interfaces
Ensure prompt and urgent resolution of QA actions required to support production targets.
Ensure alignment and compliance to all relevant aspects of ASME Code Section VIII, Divisions 1 & 2, Section XII, Section V (NDE) and IX (Welding)
Ensures that all standards used for ASME quality control requirements are kept current. Ensures any relevant ASME changes or updates are promptly cascaded and evaluated for impact.
Ensures processes are in place to demonstrate compliance to design, drawings, specifications and calculations as they pertain to ASME, PED, TPED, DOT and customer requirements.
Ensure processes are in place for certification of welders, administration of eye examinations, and oversight of NDT.


Training and Coaching related to compliance, codes and specifications.
Co-Lead creation of inspection test plans for fabrication of pressure vessels, in support of Engineering department.
Support QA initiatives to ensure business critical processes are defined and managed through controlled documentation.
Conduct internal audits and support external audits.
Lead Gardners ASME Steering Team
Conduct select critical inspections and serve as liaison with Authorized Inspectors, vendors and other regulatory representatives.
Engage in the disposition and investigation of internal deviations and non-conformances.
Facilitate root cause investigations and corrective actions pertaining to internal and external non-conformances, with application of power scale, failure mode analysis, and mistake proofing.

Education and Licensing Requirements:

5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment with working knowledge of ASME related to the fabrication and inspection of pressure vessels and metal components preferred.
Bachelors degree in an industrial or mechanical engineering discipline MUST
Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent is preferred.
Knowledge and understanding of statutory/regulatory inspection requirements.
Demonstrated problem solving and root cause analysis concepts and methodologies.
Demonstrated ability to use Quality assurance principles to impact business results.
Certified Internal Auditor a plus
Lean Six Sigma training or certification a plus.
Ability to work across all levels to influence key stakeholders and lead through influence. Strong interpersonal skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills including presentation ability.
High energy in a complex and challenging environment, desire to learn new skills, and ability to work independently and in a team environment.
