Job Description

R&D Director Sustaining (Medical Devices)


Leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of a Sustaining Management Process and Governance for our products across all Image Guided Therapy Devices (IGTD) in partnership with our internal and external manufacturing partners.


Your role:


As part of the IGTD R&D Leadership Team you will be an influential leader, shaping our Sustaining product development portfolio and project strategies, leading our program management group to drive to consistently deliver high quality, safe and effective, regulatory compliant products and services.

Translating our IGTD Strategies for market access and geographic expansion into operating plans in partnership with the IGTD Leadership Team.

Attracting, retaining, and developing top talent.

Utilizing and training others to employ portfolio management tools to build objective evidence supporting our cross-functional operating plans for resource capacity, operating expenses, and financial performance targets.

Preparing multi-year cross-functional budgets for strategic planning of our Sustaining portfolio including staffing, operational expenses, and capital expenses.

Lead our governance model and drive continuous operational performance improvement.


You're the right fit if:



You have 10+ total years experience in expanding engineering leadership roles (manufacturing, supply chain, R&D, etc.) in a highly regulated industry (medical devices or pharmaceutical strongly preferred).

You've earned a Masters degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience.

You have demonstrated a successful track record leading people, executing complex manufacturing or new product development projects / programs / improvement opportunities (timelines, quality, capacity, capability, cost, productivity, etc.).

You have strong leadership skills (change management, communications, building rapport and executing within a complex matrixed organization) and a demonstrated ability to establish and lead a team in Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.

You effectively communicate to numerous stakeholders including senior management, other Business Groups, internal and/or external customers and staff.

You are able to successfully perform the following minimum Physical, Cognitive and Environmental job requirements with or without accommodation for this hybrid position.

Philips Transparency Details


The pay range for this position is $148,000 to $250,000, annually. The actual base pay offered may vary depending on multiple factors including, job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.

In addition, other compensation, such as an annual incentive bonus, sales commission or long-term incentives may be offered. Employees are eligible to participate in our comprehensive Philips Total Rewards benefits program, which includes a generous PTO, 401k (up to 7% match), HSA (with company contribution), stock purchase plan, education reimbursement and much more. At Philips, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top end of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each case.
