  • Float position - three 12-hour shifts/week. Night shift. Every other weekend required. Ideal candidate has experience in Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, and Medical/Surgical Unit.
  • Demonstrates through assessment, an understanding of the elements most significant to the clinical care of the patient.
  • Assesses the patient and completes the RN admission data base within 24 hours of the patients admission.
  • When functioning as a patient care nurse, completes the RN assessment, as delegated by the charge nurse.
  • Makes patient care rounds during each shift and following any significant change in patients condition to identify problems and make adjustments to the plan of care.
  • Communicates assessment findings and other appropriate clinical information to other health care professionals involved in the patients care.
  • Ensures that all nursing interventions and patient responses are communicated to responsible practitioners as indicated and that all required components of the nursing process are documented in accordance with standards of practice.
  • Maintains effective utilization of manpower, equipment, and supplies.
  • Must be able to demonstrate competency in all procedures within scope of practice, as appropriate to the ages of the patients served and must be able to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patients needs.
  • Performs nursing care in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on the age of the patient and their clinical condition.
  • Communicates drug information to patients, when appropriate, and documents.
  • Monitors the hospital experience from the perspective of the individual patient and functions as a patient advocate.
  • Effectively communicates with patients, families, and members of the health care team.
  • Accepts assignments in multiple work areas within the department of nursing or for which the employee has the necessary skills and training.
  • Assures that all tasks performed are in compliance with related state and federal guidelines, rules, and regulations.
  • Answers the patient call bell system in a prompt manner and speaks in a quiet, calm, and courteous voice.
  • Documents in patient record appropriately.
  • Reviews patient care plans daily and charts accordingly.
  • Performs interventions as plan of care deems necessary.
  • Willingly/readily accepts delegated tasks within scope of practice.
  • Maintains composure under stress and utilizes resources to cope with stressful situations.
  • Assists with staffing when deemed necessary.
  • Functions as House Supervisor on a rotating basis.

Requirements

  1. Graduate of an approved school of professional nursing.
  2. Currently licensed by the Texas Board of Nursing as a registered nurse.
  3. CPR certification
  4. ACLS certification
  5. TNCC certification
  6. PALS certification
