Overview

The AOT Environmental Biologist position is a multi-faceted role that completes natural resource assessment work at the Agency of Transportation (AOT) involving the evaluation of the impact of proposed transportation projects upon wetlands, fisheries, wildlife, and endangered species. Coordination with appropriate resource regulatory agencies and permit application preparation to those agencies is an essential component of the position. Field work is a regular part of the position during the field season. During the off season, remote work may be an option depending on the needs of the Agency.


Useful skills for this position would include wetland delineation, plant ID, familiarity with VT/US wetland and waters permitting parameters, wildlife/fisheries studies, effective communication, GIS/GPS mapping using handheld collectors, ARCMAP, ARCGIS Pro, Field Maps.

This is a Limited Service position, which is non-tenured and authorized through 09/30/2026. Limited Service positions are established for specially funded projects or programs.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed both in a standard office setting and in the field. Fieldwork will require traversing rough terrain, wooded areas, streams, and wetlands. Some evening or weekend work may be required in attending public meetings and hearings. Private means of transportation may be required and must be available.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in a biological-life science or an environmental or natural resources field AND one (1) year or more of experience at or above a technical level in the field of natural resources, involving wetlands, fisheries, wildlife, or threatened or endangered species.

OR

Bachelor's degree in a biological-life science or an environmental or natural resources field AND two (2)years or more of experience at or above a technical level in the field of natural resources, involving wetlands, fisheries, wildlife, or threatened or endangered species.
