Compensation: $120,000 - $150,000 (includes a performance-based incentive)

The Opportunity

Guided by the Executive Director and working closely with the Board and Marketing Manager, the Deputy Director (DD) will have a pivotal role in fundraising, overseeing both development and marketing initiatives for the organization. This position involves amplifying ISFs primary fundraising channels to secure major gifts, engage institutional donors, establish corporate partnerships, and promote board involvement. The goal is to advance the organization's mission of enhancing lives and educational opportunities within the Islamic community. The Deputy Director has the mission to expand annual fundraising outcomes, with a goal to secure $1.5 million annually and to implement an overall growth escalation from an annual budget of $1.5 million to an annual budget of $5 million within a 5-year timeframe. The Deputy Directors active engagement will significantly contribute to advancing the organization's mission of providing scholarship opportunities to deserving students.

Requirements

In this pivotal development role, you will be instrumental in driving ISFs mission forward by spearheading fundraising efforts, with a special focus on major gifts, institutional donors, and corporate partnerships, and ensuring the active engagement of our esteemed board of directors.

Fundraising Strategy:

  • Secure $1.5 million annually and implement an overall growth escalation strategy from an annual budget of $1.5 million to an annual budget of $5 million within a 5-year timeframe.
  • Devise and execute a comprehensive annual development plan that inspires and motivates stakeholders.
  • Strategize ways to optimize fundraising in major gifts, engage institutional donors, foster corporate partnerships, and enhance board involvement.
  • Collaborate with the marketing and creative teams to craft and execute communication campaigns for current and prospective donors, including donor solicitations and annual impact reports.

Major Gifts:

  • Steward major gifts in the amount of $10,000 - $100,000.
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit major donors who share a deep commitment to supporting education and leadership development for Muslim students.
  • Foster and maintain meaningful relationships with major gift donors, ensuring a strong connection to the ISF mission.

Institutional Donors:

  • Conduct thorough research to identify potential institutional donors aligned with ISF's mission and goals.
  • Craft compelling proposals and presentations to secure support from foundations, trusts, and other institutional partners.

Corporate Partnerships:

  • Cultivate relationships with corporations interested in making a meaningful impact on education and leadership initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Manager to create customized sponsorship packages for corporate partners.

Grant Writing and Management:

  • Draft and submit grant proposals, ensuring they are consistent with the organization's initiatives and priorities.
  • Oversee the management of existing grants, including reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Identify potential grant sources and supervise the preparation of grant proposals.

Staff Leadership:

  • Strong leadership abilities are imperative for this role, encompassing the capacity to motivate a small development team. The Deputy Director is not only a strategic guide but also an actively engaged team member responsible for executing plans and ensuring their successful culmination.
  • Experience in recruiting, mentoring, and managing staff.

Board Engagement:

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director, Board Development Committee, and Board Development Chair to establish board fundraising protocols and strategies.
  • Provide necessary resources and support to board members to enhance their engagement in fundraising efforts.

Administrative:

  • Collaborate with ISF's Marketing Manager to align efforts in developing a range of materials for fundraising initiatives, covering items such as the annual fund appeal, monthly newsletter, case statements, and web content.
  • Generate reports and evaluate fundraising outcomes, providing updates to the Board.
  • Maintain the CRM system by regularly updating it with donation and pledge information, and include detailed notes to monitor the advancement of donor cultivation and stewardship.
  • Conduct a thorough analysis of donor data within the CRM platform.

Knowledge, Skills, and Expertise

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; preference for a master's degree or an equivalent combination of experience and professional development.
  • A minimum of ten years experience in the field of development, including a proven track record in fundraising, particularly in major gifts, institutional donors, and corporate partnerships, particularly in the nonprofit or NGO sector.
  • Demonstrated success in managing a minimum of 100 donors and prospects for a continuous period of five years, consistently securing gifts ranging in the five-and six-figure range.
  • Willingness to travel frequently and participate in community events, often scheduled during weekends.
  • Capable of leading a small development team, serving as both a strategic leader and a hands-on team member responsible for plan execution and successful completion.
  • Familiarity with grant processes and grant-making institutions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience working collaboratively with a board of directors.
  • Passion for ISF's mission and a commitment to empowering Muslim students.

  • This is a work-from-home position based in the U.S., with up to 25% travel.
  • The salary for this position is $120,000 - $150,000, which includes a performance-based incentive.
