Development Director, Alpha House/Interfaith Hospitality Network, Ann Arbor, MI

About Alpha House

Alpha House was established in 1992 to provide shelter and support to homeless and at-risk families. Alpha House currently serves over forty families a year up to six at a time in the shelter, an additional twenty to thirty families in the Home-Bases Support program. Alpha

House provides intensive support services to address each familys individual needs and barrier to securing permanent housing.

Alpha House was started by twelve faith-based organizations that saw a need to provide shelters for homeless families, while also recognizing issues of institutional racism, classism, and bias. Alpha House has a deliberate and mindful equity, inclusion and diversity lens on our work and our interaction with our board, staff, and client families. About the Opportunity

Alpha House is hiring a new Development Director.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Director has overall strategic and operational responsibility for the development plan for the organization. A significant portion of the Executive Directors time will be dedicated to supporting and collaborating with the

Development Director. At the direction of the Development Director, the Board of Directors, the

Development Committee, other staff and volunteers will be available to provide support for the successful implementation of annual development plan.

Key Tasks and Activities Include the Following:

  • Develop an annual plan that will identify fundraising goals for non-governmental grants and individual, community and corporate donations and the tactical plans to reach these goals.
  • Oversee the implement the annual development.
  • Together with the Executive Director, build relationships with individuals, organizations, foundations, corporations and other stakeholders.
  • Together with the Executive Director, develop and lead a capital campaign based on future strategic planning decisions made by the Board of Directors.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on progress towards fundraising goals.
  • Manage grant writing and identification of new grant opportunities.
  • Plan and execute fundraising events.
  • Develop and manage a donor communication plan that includes regular donor communications, newsletters, special appeals and use of social media.

Relevant Experience

The successful candidate will have:

  • A participatory leadership and communication style.
  • A minimum of a four-year degree or five years of experience in development including capital campaign experience.
  • Demonstrated success in individual donations, corporate and foundation giving, special events and major gifts.
  • Experience with fundraising software and donor databases.

Additional Experience

  • Experience of fundraising in the nonprofit sector.
  • An understanding of how racial inequity, systems of oppression, and injustice cause family homelessness and a strong desire to end homelessness.
  • Demonstrated positive relationships with individuals from marginalized communities and people different from yourself based on race, sexual orientation, gender identity and other positionalities.

Salary and Benefits:

  • $55,000 - $75,000 annual salary, based on experience.
  • Benefits, including health, dental, life, short-term disability insurance; health savings account, and other optional benefits.
  • 403(b) retirement plan
  • Generous paid holiday, vacation, and sick leave.
