MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Information Technology Specialist 2.

Section 70.1 Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in any of the following titles: Supervising Computer Operator.

Section 52.6 Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title allocated SG-16 or higher eligible to transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.

55b/c Appointment: This position is eligible for 55b/c designation and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Candidates must possess a current 55b/c eligibility letter and the following minimum qualifications:

1. a bachelor's or higher-level degree including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science;

2. a bachelor's or higher-level degree in any field AND one year of experience in information technology;

3. 60 semester credit hours including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science AND one year of experience in information technology;

4. two years of experience in information technology.
Certain math and business courses although taken as part of a computer science curriculum, are not counted towards the 15 semester credit hours.

Duties Description
The New York State Education Departments (NYSED) Performance Improvement and Management Services is seeking candidates for an Information Technology Specialist 2 position in the Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) in Albany, NY and will serve ACCES District Offices in the northern New York region. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Respond to customer trouble calls for computer-related problems via phone, remote control, or visit to customers desk in person;
  • Collaborate with other ITS staff to analyze and resolve problems;
  • Create work orders via the Footprints system and provide updated inventory data;
  • Perform add/change/delete work order requests for software, equipment, repair, new employees, transfers, and staff moves, including identifying and copying user data from old to new computer;
  • Deliver new equipment and collect old equipment to be reassigned or recycled;
  • Move computer equipment for staff and office relocations;
  • Perform the unpacking, configuration/setup, and delivery/deployment of new computer equipment, and coordinate with office staff receiving new computers;
  • Unpack various types of computer equipment and assemble/configure items for setup and delivery;
  • Install and configure software and other upgrades according to NYSED standards from NYSED servers and supplied images;
  • Troubleshoot PC, laptop, printer, and other hardware (scanner, external drive, etc.) problems;
  • Analyze office computer needs and make recommendations to NYSED managers on how to deploy or redeploy equipment in the most efficient manner;
  • Evaluate new PC related hardware and software and maintain knowledge to be able to set it up and explain to users at a high level how to use it; and
  • Travel to ACCES District Offices in northern New York region as needed.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This will be a permanent appointment. For 55b/c appointment, candidates must possess the minimum qualifications, a current 55b/c eligibility letter and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Promotions and transfers may change appointees negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. This position will require 30% in-state travel.

This position leads to a maximum salary of $80,248 based on annual performance advances.
