o primary and secondary allocations for both basic and extended-format data sets,

o dataset retention based upon the management class policies established in SMS,

o catalog services for submitted change requests using the IBM IDCAMS and Rocket Software TREX tools.

Implement infrastructure and process design

Analyze the operating posture of the existing storage hardware and software. Plan, design, test, and deploy enhancements, new infrastructure, and technical processes to meet expanding workloads, exploit new technologies, improve operational functionality and efficiency, and protect the integrity and resilience of the customer's data. Specific tasks include:

a. Commission and decommission storage subsystems as required.

b. Construct data replication topologies to move data between storage subsystems, data centers and the e-vault.

c. Install/enhance/configure software, construct backup and recovery processes to protect data from accidental or deliberate corruption or erasure.

The administrator shall design the following:

a. Virtualized provisioning pools/processes and automated tiering policies.

b. SMS pools, constructs, ACS code, HSM parameter library members, etc.

c. Automation scripts to report/alert, analyze, and manage storage.

d. Test storage infrastructure and migrate data to new z/OS Logical Partitions (LPARS) and Sysplexes.

e. Storage performance processes that report/alert on issues.

f. Build processes and utilize models that plan for future capacity and performance needs.

g. Upgrading and configuring storage hardware and software such as DASD and tape subsystems, command/control servers and software, storage communication gateways, storage resource management and performance management software, mainframe storage started tasks, and backup/recovery software.

h. Assist with the development of new storage architectures, including long-term transformational plans.

a. Design, implement, test, and deploy physical and virtual tape storage infrastructure and processes including onboard intelligence for encryption, data-deduplication, compression, etc.

j. Designing, building, and testing electronic vaulting infrastructures and processes.

k. Design and implement improved backup and recovery methodologies for virtual tape systems.

Work with customer teams and 3rd party vendors to devise storage infrastructure and practices to meet future application and database requirements.

Design and engineer detailed testing configurations and proofs of concepts for new technologies that support customer storage needs.

Develop best practice project plans, engineering scripts, laboratory test models, and documentation to manage existing and new storage infrastructures.

Research and develop back-up and recovery approaches

Research and develop recovery approaches for potential failure scenarios that meet the customer Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) objectives.

Analyze the root cause of backup and data replication failures/exposures. Design practices and deploy technologies to eliminate data loss exposure. Design, build, test, and deploy automation mechanisms that minimize RPO and RTO.

Work with customer teams and 3rd party vendors to devise business resilience infrastructure and practices to meet application and database requirements.

Design and engineer detailed plans and scripts for disaster recovery exercises, disaster recovery events, and moving Sysplexes between data centers.

Transfer skills to other storage administrators.

Execute the procedures in disaster recovery exercises.
