Scope/Purpose of the Position:

Premier Mortgage Company seeking to hire additional Full-time Employee Underwriters to join their team.

Determines continued risk and compliance of loans after initial review by production underwriter. Responsible for making sure the company absorbs minimal risk by assuring that loans are underwritten according to company and agency guidelines.

Major Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

• Represents the company in a professional and enthusiastic manner by providing an exceptional level of customer service, supporting the mission statement, and adhering to our core values in all functions of their job responsibilities and interaction with internal and external customers.


• Understands and adheres to all department, division, and corporate policies and procedures as it pertains to their job responsibility.


• Analyze documentation and loan attributes for accuracy and compliance.


• Ensures all data noted in loan origination system is consistent with documentation contained in the loan file in the imaging system.


• Assists with the file flow by analyzing and clearing loan conditions.


• Meet designated turn times for condition clears, average of 8 minimum loan touches per day, and email response times.


• Build team morale and help to define a customer-centric, positive atmosphere.


• Works with other internal departments to resolve any issues expeditiously.


• Reviews loan files to validate that all requirements of company’s product descriptions have been met and the loan is underwritten in accordance to investor and/or applicable agency (FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, USDA, JUMBO) guidelines.


• Ensures that proper project classification guidelines have been met for properties located in the condominium or planned unit development.


• Verifies that all third-party quality control supporting documentation is contained within the loan file and meets the company standards.


• Communicates proactively with the sales staff and brokers on the status of all loans.


• Utilizes the ticketing system for any required exceptions.


• Responsible for assisting the Post-Closing/Quality Control departments in obtaining missing documentation needed in order to render a loan saleable in the secondary market in a timely manner.


• Manually underwrites files to agency guidelines when loan is not approved through automated underwriting, if allowed by.


• Ability to work overtime as required by the department manager based on the work requirements.


• Reports to work on a daily and timely basis and complies with all requirements of the Human Resource policy manual.

• Intermediate level of computer skills and the ability to function in a windows environment utilizing Outlook, Word and Excel.


• Ability to rapidly acquire detailed knowledge of departmental policies, practices and procedures


• Excellent knowledge of product guidelines for conventional mortgages and government mortgages, as applicable.


• Excellent knowledge of industry standard underwriting systems (FNMA DU, FHLMC LP, etc.).


• Knowledge of Encompass a plus.


• Exceptional organization skills and ability to multi-task and handle several priorities at once.


• Must be able to maintain a positive attitude, while handling changing situations and strict deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications or Training:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.


• two to three years of recent front line experience underwriting conventional and/or government loans.


• Retail OR Wholesale experience.


• Staff Underwriter (GOV or CONV) experience preferred.


• Any Mortgage Designations a big plus.
