Role Senior Network Engineer Agile Team Resources CATS+Labor Category Engineer, Network Security Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for the designand implementation of large datacommunications or telecommunications networks. Maintains proper records of the designed networks. The network documentation should include networkdrawings, text descriptions andequipment configurations. Maintains documentation duringthe installation and implementationprocesses. Advises OTHS management andprovides technicalguidance on networkingsolutions, product plans, androadmaps. Provides OTHS management with reports on network availability, network performance, andproject status. Plans and monitorsthe installationof communications circuits. Manages and monitorslocal areanetworksand associated equipment (e.g.,bridges,routers, modem pools, and gateways Conducts short and long-termplan to meet communications requirements. Plans, designs, and buildsDHS local area networks (LANs),widearea networks(WANs), from determiningcables layout to placement and selection of firewalls, routers, switches, etc. Performs in-depth analysis,develops improvements, and decides what hardware and software are neededto support the network. Looks at current data traffic, estimates how growth will affect the network and createmodels to predict future network needs. Research new technology and determine what would best supportDHS in the future. Prepares tradeoff studiesand evaluationsfor vendor equipment. Generates network monitoring/performancereportfor LAN/WAN utilization studies. Advises OTHS management andprovides technicalguidance on networkingsolutions, product plans, androadmaps. Provides OTHS management with reports on network availability, network performance, andproject status. Performs configuration, implementation, monitoring, problem resolution, and maintenance of firewalls,routers, switches, access points, network access control (NAC), Network Management Systems (NMS),Intrusion Detection Systems / Intrusion Prevention System (IDS/IPS), Virtual Private Networks (VPNs),and security information and event management (SIEM) system. Use diagnostic programs;and utilitiesto ensure 99.9%network availability. Interacts with other IT Supportstaff, other departments (withinDHS as well as externalagencies), and/or third-party vendors to determine network and infrastructure security requirements for new systemimplementations, troubleshoot and repair outages and service degradation, including performing researchand gathering information, while ensuring networkperformance is not impacted. Troubleshoots network systems,resolves,and rectifiesnetwork issues. Monitors and identifies capacityand performance issues for DHSs enterprise networkinfrastructure trafficto ensure continued, uninterrupted operation. Documents trouble reportsusing Remedyticketsystem. Provides accurate and timelyupdatesin tickets. Performs project management taskssuch as team building,staff training and scheduling. Plans,schedules,and performsmaintenance on network systems to avoidany down time due to networkingissues. Provides customer service(with products,services,and recommendations) to both internal and external customsthat meets or exceeds the standardsset by the Department. Promotes and supportsthe useof technology that enables productivity and further enhancesthelevel of customer satisfaction. Responds to customerinquiries ina timely and courteous manner,while ensuringall customer communication isdocumented. Adheres to all policies and regulations concerning confidentiality,use of state property, training requirements, and technical/physical security. Works at variouslocations asrequired. Ensures all writtencommunication is clear,concise, and audienceappropriate. Considers impact and the need for urgency when deciding a courseof action. Does not misusegovernment propertyfor personal gain, including non-work-related internet usage. Motivates and leadscross-functional teams and manages stakeholder groups at variouslevels of theorganization to build trust and forgecritical consensus. Meets legal, regulatory, andpolicy mandates. *General Experience: This positionrequires a minimumofeight (8) years of computer-relatedexperience. *Specialized Experience: At least 3 years ofexperience configuring firewalls. At least 7 years ofexperience configuring routers andswitches. At least 10 years ofexperience monitoring network equipment. At least 10 years ofexperience with excellent communicationskills (oral and written) in clear, conciseEnglish with correctspellingand grammar. Must have experience with network analysis/management tools andtechniques and be familiarwithPersonal Computers(PCs) in a client/serverenvironment. Must be familiarwith IT technology and long distanceand local carriermanagement.
