The primary responsibilities of the Lab Associate are to provide support in Product Development, Quality Assurance, Metrology and Analytical Lab Testing. This entails producing high quality and timely results in support of packaging projects from inception through planning, design, and manufacturing. This position is responsible for conducting laboratory testing and evaluation of packages, packaging products and related materials to support the new product development projects, manufacturing, and customer inquiries. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Run designed experiments using a DOE (design of experiment) or data collecting Excel spreadsheet.
- Record all data and results in specified forms (paper and electronic) with accuracy and responsibility.
- Complete both long and short-term projects that require testing protocol development and identify issues/opportunities to enhance current testing procedures.
- Present results in Power Point format and prepare technical reports.
- Maintain and Troubleshoot Equipment daily as needed.
- Assist in ordering laboratory consumables.
- Collaborate with outside suppliers as needed to successfully complete projects.
- Organize and store all chemical substances, fluids, and compressed gases in accordance with federal regulations and local statutes.
- Demonstrate ability to work with multiple researchers and different departments and manage priorities. Play an important role on cross-functional teams.
- Willing to learn operation of new equipment for production, material processing and analytical measurements.
- Self-motivated individual with a strong attention to detail who can efficiently complete tasks outlined in experimental test plans on schedule.
- Demonstrate proactive attitudes in developing solutions to technical issues.
- Other work as assigned based on the project and company needs.
- This job does have exposure to water, pulp, harmful chemicals, and loud noises. PPE is provided.
Requirements Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Knowledge, understanding and experience with experimental design.
- Ability to follow and implement Analytical testing procedures.
- Experience using analytical equipment such as UV-Vis, HPLC, GC/MS, FTIR, etc.
- Excellent skills in collecting data and accurately maintaining laboratory notebooks and records.
- Strong organizational skills to keep track of data, and carefully document all processes and results.
- Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy

- Flexibility to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Preferred but not required. - Laboratory Procedures and Techniques
- Multistep Reactions, Workup, Analysis
- Titrations, distillations, crystallizations, recrystallizations, polymerizations, and chromatography
- Basic and advanced wet-bench techniques
- Preparation of stock solutions and reagent
- Molecular modeling, Material Database, and Statistics software.
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates/incumbents must meet the minimum qualifications as detailed below. - B.S. in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Food Science, or other relevant degree, required.
- 1-2 years of laboratory experience (preferred)
- Fundamental understanding of chemistry, analytical techniques, and material sciences.
- Understand how to follow and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs)
