Thompson, located in the Charlotte/Matthews area, has an opening for a Licensed Therapist to work in a residential setting. The ideal candidate is able to exhibit a positive, upbeat attitude to encourage youth interaction and understands the cultural diversity of youths, their families and team members.  This program provides 24-hour direct care to adolescents ages 12 – 17 in the residential program by providing a safe therapeutic home setting in a positive, consistent and structured environment.

 



This position will provide overall implementation of the clinical components of the program. Responsibilities include individual, family, and group counseling, working with direct care staff and outside resources for treatment planning, child and family team meetings, and judicial reviews. The ideal candidate should be very comfortable with trauma-informed care so as to use it effectively with clients, as well as intervene and coach direct care staff and the families of clients.

 



Other duties include:

• Appropriately intervenes to meet the needs of our clients and their families and to help our clients and their family members gain the skills and confidence to address issues and problems and prepare for discharge and return to the school, home and community setting of origin.

• Attends workshops and seminars for the continued education and development of the direct care staff and provides clinical consultation to direct care staff as needed or requested by Program Supervisor, Residential Director or administrative personnel.

• Evaluates the progress of client’s therapeutic treatment goals.

• Participates in discussions regarding the on-going treatment of clients and/or families in order to provide input and direction with Program Supervisor and other staff working with the clients and families.

• Assists in admission of new clients into the treatment program with accompanying paperwork.

• Provides initial assessment with full diagnosis and recommendations in psychosocial assessment when appropriate.

• Ensure that all necessary therapeutic materials are available to support the intervention methods and philosophy of care.

• Maintains appropriate documentation including therapy notes of all sessions including individual, group and family sessions, preparing reports for progress summaries, discharge reports, and court reports when needed.

• Updates and submits documentation for the re-authorization of care via appropriate utilization review of documentation according to established schedule.

• Maintains a flexible schedule (to include evenings and weekends when appropriate) to meet the needs of clients and families.

 



A Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Marriage & Family Therapy or related field required. Provisional licensure as a LPCA, LCSWA, LMFTA or related license is required, full licensure preferred. If not currently licensed, must provide documentation of licensure application to be considered for this position.  Four years of experience working with children and/or families in a mental health or residential treatment setting are preferred. For consideration, applicants must be 23 years of age to work in this program.

 



Physical Requirements: Will frequently perform a wide variety of physical tasks such as standing, walking, running, stooping, bending, climbing stairs, which requires strength, coordination, endurance, and agility.  Staff must be agile enough to control and rapidly extricate him/herself and youths from buildings in case of an emergency. Persons with any medical problems such as joint problems, obesity, arthritis or cardiopulmonary conditions, where it would be unwise or not possible to engage in moderate physical exertion should not be considered.

 



Position requires driving agency vehicles as well as transporting clients. A valid driver’s license in the state of permanent residence, at least three years of driving with a driver’s license and clean driving record are required. All potential job candidates must pass a drug screening test, TB, Physical and an extensive background check.
