Job Description:
Position Overview:
All aspects of respiratory therapy to include, high risk deliveries, ICU care, ventilator/ airway management, Med/Surg floor care, Trauma/ ED response. Code team and rapid response team member. Team player with exceptional communication skills and critical thinking is a must.
Essential Functions:
a) Interview and examine patients with breathing or cardiopulmonary disorders.
b) Treat patients by using a variety of methods including chest physiotherapy and aerosol medications.
c) Monitor and record progress of treatments.
d) Educate patients how to use treatments.
e) Draw ABG (arterial blood gas) samples for testing.
f) Application and monitoring of medical gases, humidification systems, ventilator support.
g) Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, airway management and intubation/tracheotomy assistance.
h) Be proficient with (or able to learn) all modes of ventilation used at MMH
i) Perform necessary procedures with non-invasive methods such as CPAP and BIPAP therapies.
j) Discharge preparation and patient teaching.
k) Responsible for sharing workload, including 12-hour shifts, various rotating schedules, working extended shifts and taking after hours call to include weekends and holidays if necessary to meet the needs of the department.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Physical Demands: Ability to lift twenty (20) pounds. Moving, lifting or transferring of patients may involve lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds, as well as assist with weights of more than one-hundred (100) pounds. Ability to stand for extended periods. Fine motor skills. Visual acuity.
Qualifications & Skills:
a) Education: Graduate of AMA-approved school of Respiratory Therapy. Registered Respiratory Therapist by the NBRC. BLS required on hire. NRP, PALS, ACLS
b) Training & Experience: Current, competent and basic knowledge of intensive care and neonatal intensive care including EKG, ABG, spirometry, and oximetry. Team player, compassionate, detail oriented, strong communication skills, patience, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work collaboratively and with minimal supervision.
