The SBA Loan Specialist is housed within Celtic Banks Small Business Administration commercial loan portfolio. The SBA Loan Specialist is primarily responsible for preparing Guaranty requests consistent with Small Business Administration procedures for requesting and honoring the SBAs loan Guaranty program. The SBA Loan Specialist role requires effective communication with internal Bank teams to prepare, analyze, and successfully recover a Guaranty from the SBA on defaulted loans. Documentation gathering and analysis is a major function of the role. The ideal SBA Loan Specialist candidate must have strong organizational, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Gather, review, and analyze loan documentation necessary for SBA packages.
  • Prepare SBA packages including:
    • Purchase Demand Kits.
    • Care and Preservation of Collateral Tabs.
    • Charge off Tabs.
    • Liquidation Deadline requests.
  • Prepare Wrap Up reports, memos, and justifications for certain loan actions.
  • Review completed SBA packages by other team members for quality control.
  • Prepare responses to SBA questions related to submitted requests.
  • Correspond and work with third party resources to gather effective data, such as attorneys, appraisers, and site inspectors.
  • Other Small Business Administration related tasks, as assigned.
  • Other tasks and projects as assigned, including, but not limited to:
    • Mail processing and distribution.
    • Form 172 completion and remission of post-default recovery payments.
    • Bankruptcy correspondence and related tasks.
    • Vendor payment processing.
    • Monthly/Quarterly report generation and presentation.

Requirements

  • Previous SBA and/or lending experience preferred.
  • Four-year or undergraduate degree strongly preferred.
  • Detail oriented and possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and work independently.
  • Must possess the ability to prioritize and support various activities simultaneously.
  • Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong technical skills - including but not limited to Microsoft Office suite, web-based applications, and SharePoint/OneDrive.
  • Adaptability to meet changing department priorities while remaining attentive to daily demands.
  • Ability to learn quickly, adapt to new processes, and work in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationship.

Physical and Other Requirements

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Stationary Work: The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to type, handle documents, and perform other office related duties. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Mobility: The employee in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Communicate: The employee is regularly required to talk or hear and will frequently communicate with others. Must be able to read, write and understand fluent English.
  • Work Model: The employee in this position will work either a fully Onsite, Hybrid or Remote work model. All employees, regardless of location, may be required to travel to the Salt Lake City office for mandatory company meetings, events, or related occasions.
    • Utah-based employees: Hybrid work schedule available after initial training period in our Salt Lake City, Utah office department and job requirements will determine eligibility.
    • Out of State employees: Full remote work schedule available.
