Sr. Pr. Mechanical Engineer Cryo Vessels
at our Corporate Headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

The Mechanical Equipment Design team, which is part of our Global Engineering organization, is looking for a Sr. Pr. Mechanical engineer to support the design of air separation equipment for both Air Products owned plants and those that are engineered and constructed for others. You will support both in house designed and manufactured equipment as well as items purchased from third-party suppliers.


Principle accountabilities:

Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for Air Product fabricated Distillation Columns and ancillary equipment for our Liquid Hydrogen (LHy) and Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Technologies, including creating Estimates, Execution Strategies, and Technical Risk Statements.
Detailed mechanical engineering of cryogenic distillation columns, internals and other cryogenic equipment that Air Products fabricates in house.
Completing pressure boundary calculations to meet specific codes (e.g. ASME). Detailed analysis of wind, seismic, shipping and support designs are also required.
Specification of various non-rotating equipment including brazed aluminum heat exchangers, V-wire screens, demisters.
Review and validate supplier calculations and drawing for purchased equipment compliance to codes and specifications.
Interaction with Air Products China, Malaysia, and Florida fabrication facility including occasional shop visits.
Vendor inspections and construction/start-up support may be required which include trips to vendors and plant locations worldwide.
Support of product development and R&D initiatives is also a requirement.
Actively collaborate with internal AP teams and external third-parties to meet project commitments, costs, and schedules. Support equipment and labor estimates for proposed projects and bidding activities.

Minimum proficiencies and qualifications:

BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited program
Must qualify as Responsible Charge per ASME BPVC Section VIII, Division 1 Appendix 47
Registered Professional Engineer in at least one state of the United States a plus
15 years experience in engineering/design of pressure vessels or similar. Preferably in Air Separation, HYCO, Liquid Hydrogen, or Liquified Natural Gas field.
Strong technical skills in the design of pressure vessels and heat exchangers
Strong working knowledge of pressure vessel and heat exchanger design codes including ASME BPVC Section VIII, GB, GOST, KGSC, etc.
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability for travel to plant sites, EPC offices, and vendor shops (expected travel up to 10%)
Experience with manufacturing design and fabrication drawings
Experience with pressure vessel design software such as COMPRESS
Experience with stress analysis software such as AutoPIPE, Caesar, FEA etc. is preferred
Experience with Fatigue analysis is a plus
Code Committee memberships are desirable
