Safety Assistant Job Description Pay: $17.00 Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, 5-days workweek @ 8 hours a day with the opportunity for overtime (once fully trained or acclimated) - Assigned Rest Days Friday/Saturday
- Sunday 6:30 am to 3 pm.
- Monday thru Thursday 2:30 pm to 11 pm.
Purpose: The purpose of this position is to assist in planning, implementing, and conduct preventive care, carry safety as one of our company core value taking precedence over all other priorities. Protecting our employees and practice a continuous improvement methodology. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Ensure each new hire employee receives the proper onboarding training as per company safety protocol and local/state/federal standards
- Conduct plant daily/weekly/monthly compliance inspections and audits
- Conduct employee's weekly toolbox meetings
- Conduct root cause analysis and identify corrective actions
- Knowledge in developing and Reviewing Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
- Conduct risk and hazard assessments and create corrective action request (CAR)
- Prepare reports of unsafe equipment, accidents/near-misses/property damage, safety violations and risk & hazards
- Demonstrate ability to effectively carry out Company's safety IIPP program to supervisors and frontline employees
- Keep Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) inventory and assist in PPE compliance
- Must be able to start and complete safety projects, assist manager/supervisor / lead men and frontline employee with continuous improvement projects
Minimum Qualifications Prefer: - Able to work in an industrial environment
- Able to communicate in English and Spanish in a professional manner
- Able to type and write legible
- Ability to train employees on equipment operation
- Computer literate
- Must be familiar with MS-Suite, able to type, use of safety management software (SMS)

Desired Qualifications: - Industrial Safety Experience
- Steel Manufacturing Experience
- Minimum OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
- First Aid/CPR certified
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job the employee must be able to communicate clearly with supervisors, or subordinates by phone, in writing, and / or in person; must be able to work within a team environment; must possess the ability to maintain accurate records and pay close attention to detail. Employee will be exposed to chemicals sporadically when performing inspections. Physical Demands: - Standing for medium to long periods of time.
- Ability to see details at close range, at a distance through peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, and/or controls.
- Reaching with hands and arms.
- Talking and hearing.
- Walking, stooping, crawling, kneeling, or crouching.
- Some lifting, tugging and/or moving up to 50 pounds.
