Salary: $ 92,000.00

We have partnered with a government services firm in the Edgewood, MD area to provide them with a Scientific Investigator.

Responsibilities of the Scientific Investigator:

  • Implement and conduct biochemical, behavioral, pharmacological and physiological components of investigations
  • Read, understand and execute techniques prescribed by the research plan to meet requirements
  • Weigh lab animals and record data--make adjustments to conform to curves and/or dictated by experimental manipulations
  • Utilize auto shaping and timing schedules, simple and complex scheduling of reinforcement and discrimination and reaction time for cognitive tasks to prepare naive animals for behavioral evaluation of toxicity
  • Perform accurate calculation and administration of medications or other substances as required
  • Collect blood and other biosamples creating entries in the medical records--conduct health checks
  • Serve as a chemical agent operator for pharmaceutical based agent
  • Evaluate dose, route, frequency and combinatorial response of medical countermeasures
  • Observe and record lab signs of intoxication when they occur
  • Oversee and conduct NHP training program to assess behavioral competence and compliance
  • Perform solubility studies of novel candidate therapeutic compounds and reactivators
  • Perform surgical implantation of telemetric devices
  • Provide written updates quarterly
  • Mentor lab techs in the appropriate collection and storage of experimental data
  • Requirements of the Scientific Investigator:

    • PhD in Psychology, Biology, Pharmacology, Neuroscience or related research area
    • 7+ years' of direct research experience with primates and other small animals including behavioral assessments and biosampling
    • In Vivo experience
    • Ability to work in a BSL4 Lab
    • MUST be experienced in regulated toxicology studies
    • Experience with non-human primates
    • Knowledge and experience in establishing and overseeing a behavioral physiological testing lab performing pharmacology assessments
    • Must be certified or able to obtain certification to work with nerve agents
    • Must be proficient with Sigmaplot and SPSS
    • Able to learn specialized computer programs for collection of specific data
    • Able to work within a team
    • MUST be a US Citizen
