The Sr. Battery Cell Engineer - Failure Analysis will investigate and root cause cell failures during production and coming from the field. This person would need to collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as process, operations, R&D, and manufacturing, to identify and define failures, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions with other teams at Cuberg. The position will involve interacting with Cubergs customers to investigate and explain cell field failures.

Cuberg is commercializing next-generation battery technology to power the future of electric mobility. The company was acquired in 2021 by Northvolt, a global supplier of sustainable, high-quality battery cells and systems. As Northvolt's Advanced Technology Center operating in Silicon Valley, Cuberg is developing and commercializing lithium metal batteries, building an innovation ecosystem around lithium-ion technology, and leveraging Northvolt's state-of-the-art manufacturing capabilities to rapidly scale up production of advanced batteries.

Requirements

• MS/PhD in Chem Engineering, Materials, or similar
• 2+ yrs of industry experience in failure analysis, reliability, quality (battery preferred)
• Competence with data tools (Python, SQL, etc) and statistics
• Experience communicating technical information clearly to diverse audiences
• Experience with cell teardowns preferred

Responsibilities

• Work cross-functionally with different teams to identify and root cause cell failures both from production and from the field using electrochemical data and physical analysis
• Interface with Cubergs partners and customers and explain cell failures
• Develop failure analysis procedures
• Organize and produce clear failure analysis reports
• Implement and drive corrective actions and preventive measures to prevent future failures

The San Francisco / Bay Area base salary range for this full-time position is $127,000 - $192,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.
